Jim Iley born 1935, South Kirby, Yorkshire.

    Played for the Toon (1962-69)

No, not our very own poster Jim Iley but a hero of yesteryear who was a great club servant.
    _______________________________________________________

Midfielder brought in from Nottingham Forest as Joe Harvey rebuilt the side to try and climb back into Division One.

Iley helped United to seventh and eighth place finishes in successive seasons, before being part of our 1964/65 Division Two title-winning team, appearing in all but four games and scoring five times.

He left Gallowgate in the 1968/69 season - after making a brief appearance in the Fairs Cup away to Feyenoord - and moved to Peterborough United as player/manager.

Later spells in charge of Barnsley, Blackburn and Bury followed - the last including some giant-killing over the Magpies, when the Fourth Division side beat us over two legs in the 1980/81 League Cup.

Met our Jim Iley at a meet up before a Spurs game, I can assure you he isn't the real Jim Iley.
