Botman and Thiaw should be our CB pairing now.

    We're probably gonna lose, like.

But we have Gordon, slayer of Arsenal back, so we might not. But Arsenal look better this season.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Jacob Murphy:
"He is doing OK and it is an issue that we are managing. With Achilles tendon problems they are ongoing and players manage them.

"He is in the place where he is fit and available but we are just trying to manage his load.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says they have "a couple of players to check" ahead of the game on Sunday.

He added that there are "no major injuries" from the game against Bradford.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Jacob Ramsey: "His recovery is going well and he is on the grass working hard and building his fitness back up.

"The plan was that he would [be back] for the first game after the international break ahead of us and if it is any earlier than that then of course he is ahead of schedule."

Don't know, we've won 4 of the last 5 vs them so I'm quietly confident of getting something out the game.

Do think Eddie is going to stick with the back 3/5 as it worked against them in the cup well over the two legs last year. Then again he could change it up to keep them guessing?

I'd love to see Captain Black's meltdown if we won it with a highly controversial penalty in the 98th minute.

after only 3 comments from Eddie's press conference
the BBC decided to cut Eddie short and spend the next HOUR with the Liverpool press conference
    **** you BBC .<grr>

    _____________________________________________________________________

Here is what Eddie has said from our press release
Here are some of the main talking points from the United head coach's pre-match media briefing on Friday morning:

On the prospect of facing Arsenal...

"It has always been a competitive game against Arsenal, and there has been an edge to those games as both teams want to win.

"The more competitive we are, the better we play. We need to bring that to the game on Sunday."

    On Nick Woltemade...

"I see him as a (number) nine - he plays it differently to other strikers we’ve had in the past. It is about utilising Nick's strengths.

"I was really impressed with him in the short time he had (against Bradford City) on Wednesday. He showed his creative flair."

On Anthony Gordon, who returns from a three-match league suspension on Sunday...

"It is a big boost for us to have him back fully. He can really focus on the few games we have ahead of the next international break.

"I thought he was excellent against Bradford. He is a player that rises to the occasion, and we are going to need everyone to do that on Sunday."

    On team news and availability...

"We have a couple of players to check today, (but) no major injuries from the game.

"Jacob (Murphy) is doing okay - it is an issue we are managing. He is fit and available, but some days he has been sore, so we are just trying to manage his load."

On Jacob Ramsey's expected return date...

"His recovery is going well. He is on the grass working hard and building his fitness back up. I think it will be after the international break that we see him. Anything before that, then he will be ahead of schedule."

On Will Osula's brace against the Bantams in midweek...

"He did a lot of work, individual work,, last season, focused on all aspects of his game. He is here and he has done well.

"He had an excellent performance on Wednesday - two brilliant goals, and it could have been more."

I hope we have a more fluid gameplan here. Another 5-4-1 will be, at best, 0-0. I think we've got enough about us to go toe for toe if we're on our game. Risky.

Like what I heard on Woltemade from Eddie. He is definitely a 9, just a really interesting one, maybe more false 9. If we can get a dynamic where the runners alongside him know they can go and get a ball played in, we could be even more difficult to play against than we were with Isak. However, 5-4-1 will continue to isolate him and with Thiaw/Botman I don't know we really need 3 at the back.

5-3-2 or 4-3-3 for me - get the three best MF on the pitch as often as possible.
