Just watched the extended highlights: very much The Tegan Finn Show. Not just the goals and assists but a string of devastatingly accurate corners and passes.
Looking through last nights results that included U21 teams. Spurs lost 6-2. Man C lost 3-0. A Villa lost 4-2. Chelsea lost 3-0. C Palace lost 3-1. The only success was Arsenal beating Newport County 2-1. Are they that weak.....surely there will be no Premiership players coming through such set-ups.....if they're is....would they have not already risen to the fringes of the first team and wouldn't be playing at this level anyway. Ok it gave Argyle a boost last night....but we mustn't read too much into it......we must hope that it gives our players a lift to perform better. Unfortunately for us it gave Tegan Finn unneeded highlighting to these bigger U21 clubs.
Presumably the EPL clubs see merit in their youngsters playing against adult teams. No doubt they agreed - or even specified the arrangement! There was some statement to the effect that no EPL team has got out of these preliminary rounds for several years.
I wonder if to some any Argyle victory is a thing of joy. Lets face it if we win comfortably it's not because we played well it's the crap standard of the opposition.
Stop trying to being subtle .....your just not very good at it......Bristol Rovers scored four against them and beat them in a penalty shoot-out. Lets face it Spurs are not very good.
Congratulations to Seb Campbell for becoming the youngest ever goal scorer for Argyle at 16 years 279 days old.....on his debut match.
They are young, that's all. And our team was made up either of youngsters and senior player in need of game time - i.e. not our first picks. NB only half-time substitutions taken into account
The take-away from this game was not that Spurs are rubbish or that we’re world beaters . It’s a nonsense game designed just to keep the TV-geld rolling in. What’s unarguable though is that Tegan Finn was head & shoulders the best player on the night. And he’s just 17.
Bristol R v Argyle ...7pm Tues 11th Nov..... this is the final game in this group of the Vertu Trophy Southern Group B. Bit of a dead rubber.....we and Rovers are already through to the knock out stages....the winner will win the group....at the moment we are 1pt in front of Rovers....whoever comes top will get a home draw. The interest in this game is that both clubs are performing at rock bottom.....Rovers are 17th in Div Two and have lost their last 5 league games.....we of course can't buy a win at any cost. If we lose this one against a struggling Div Two side then that will be rock bottom and how does Cleverley talk his way out of such a result. Shock horror ...it makes me think that if my local team Bromley ..who are doing quite well at the moment in Div Two managed to get promoted....we could pass them going the opposite way.....they used to be an Isthmian League side and an amateur outfit years back....if someone had said that to me 20/30 years ago I would have bet my house on it never happening. So tomorrow we have some pride to play for.....at present it looks as if these players have never been introduced to each other and just turned up on the off chance of a game....hopefully they will be told what system they will be playing and what formation they will be lining up.....that's assuming that Cleverley can decide. PS.....International week as well.,....we could be a few players short.....a chance for Ashby - Hammond to get a game.....give us a chance to check him out with how Hazard has been performing.
