I was happy with perch's contribution, im not his biggest fan and i know he is nowhere near prem quality but i got to hand it to him he got thrown in and he didnt embarress himself like he could have done, ive seen worse performances from first team players.

but yeah its good for willo to be back.. on his day he can be an awesome defender... i think he has the ability to easily fit in place of saylor.

Willo on his day is brilliant (Man U last season) but his rustiness will worry me for a few games.

At times perhaps, but let me give a brief summary of the story.

He joined us in late January 2009 from League Two Wycombe on a three and a half year contract, having only ever appeared for them and world football giants Torquay. He started 17 of our remaining 18 games. He started each and every one of our six games at the start of the following season, right up until the moment he went on strike towards the end of the window. I can't blame Portsmouth for that as they said nothing during the protracted Tommy Smith saga and gave us excellent money for both players. It wasn't even a question of us refusing the offer, regardless of what might have been said during negotiations, there was no way in hell we were going to turn down £2-3m for a centre back given the financial hole we were in. The fact is that he sensed the remote possibility that the deal might go down to the wire, and went on strike to guarantee that it didn't.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see the Toon in Europe next season, I just wish Williamson didn't have to be any part of it.

That's fair enough, nobody likes seeing a player mistreat their club.

Williamson will do the job, but Saylor was very important to the side, so it'll take some getting used to the fact that we won't have our rock solid defence anymore. There's every chance we could concede one or two, so we'll have to attack well and outscore them.

I think we'd let him go for RVP and £5m.

Bit cheap that for a half season loan. We get that oxtail chambermaid kid and the freehold to the emirates for a permanent in June right?

I would only take the freehold if we plan on letting the stadium to Boro, so their attendance at home games appears even more hillariously low.

We could offer it to the best bidder between West Ham and Tottenham. Give it to West Ham just for a laugh then change our minds and start a cross London bitching session including Chelsea and Leyton Orient. THEN get Boro in there.

My biggest complaint with Williamson is when he tries to guide balls out for goal-kicks and gets outmuscled by a smaller striker who sneaks in for a goal -- it's happened twice, and nothing infuriates me more than when CBs let that happen!

I agree - I am by no means a distinguished football coach, nor was my Sunday league coach, but I always just got told if you weren't 200% sure you can guide the ball out (ie. if it's rolling so slow it's either gonna stop on the line or just after it) just to hoof it out for a throw, or try and play it off the striker for a goal kick. It really frustrates me when players try and guide out balls in dangerous situations and it punishes the team, because it's such basic defending!

Lazy journalism. Cabaye won't leave four months after he's signed and Tiote has apparently came out and rubbished any talk this week (going by Lee Ryder anyway). Yes, we know Carroll did this, but for some reason I believe Tiote. Besides, Tiote fly's off for the ACON on January 6th or summit and doesn't get back till near-March, Fergie needs instant replacements. If he's gonna go, he'll go in the summer.

Ashley won't sell two players for £30m either, remember he rejected a £30m bid for Carroll before he inevitably cave, and I've got to admit, if Man Utd offered us £70m for Tiote and Cabaye I'd pack their suitcases for them.

I thought the price was a bit ridiculous considering how much better than Carroll they both have done this season. I'll personally pimp slap SAF if he does ;)

A player declaring themselves for doesn't mean they're gonna start - you still have to be fit though to be on the bench, where he is obviously going to be. Plus Pardew has a track record of not rushing players back.
