They will be out for revenge and fired up after what happened last year.
Was one of their biggest humiliations ever.

When the fixtures came out, I thought that 13 from 18 pts in the first 6 games would be very good.
so a win and a draw vs City and Newcastle would achieve that.
12 pts from the first 6 games would be ok, but less than that i think would set us back.
I expect Liverpool to be helped by refs to get to 18 points from the first 6 games.

This might come back to bite me, but I just don't rate their team like I did from 2017-2023. Over that 6 year period, City looked almost unstoppable and were unbelievable in all facets of the game (including tactical fouling lol).

By equal measure, we've come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, and our level to them is a lot closer than what it used to be. There was a period between Wenger's final season and Arteta's 3rd year at the club where they kept spanking us every time we played them. We're unbeaten against them in our last 5 competitive fixtures (3W, 2D).

This current iteration of Man City are still very good, but they're a far cry from Pep's peak Man City sides. They look weak in transition and aren't as solid defensively. They also have a lot of new, young blood that still haven't fully adapted yet.

They may well desire to avenge that 5-1 battering earlier this year, but I expect us to be too good for them.

A win would go a long way for us. I'm optimistic we can do it.

City changed their style when they signed Haaland.
It used to be that they could hurt opponents from all over the pitch at any moment - now they rely heavily on Haaland. Stop him and they are far more likely to drop points.
On any day they can still be great - but over a course of a season they are more vulnerable with their new approach and will drop more points. They'll score less goals too than they used to as well, by the way.

One of the reasons we absolutely must not change our style to suit one player. Threats from all over the pitch is better.

    Not confident for this one.

No Saka, No Havertz.. Haaland on fire.

I feel like this Man City side will be quite inconsistent this Season though so hard to tell.

It'll be a tough game, but I expect us to win given we're at home and the fact we are more than capable of locking up their attack as we're so strong defensively. We also have very good attackers of our own that can hurt them.

    I don't rate City or Liverpool !

No reason why we can't beat them. Mosquera and Gabriel have the beating of Haaland for sure and this time both CBs are aggressive (Saliba isn't). If Arteta does the same foolishness in midfield I can see it being a long day for us, we need a midfield outlet to give them something to worry about otherwise it will be Man City possession dominance and the ball coming straight back at us. We need Madueke to rass up their LB early and presuming Martinelli starts, run at their RB and fool him up in football wisdom.

Lets make them worry about our attacking threat, lets not go there and be pussies.

I really do not like that midfield and I am not convinced that dropping Mosquera is the right thing to do.
Also think Martinelli should be starting - he always gives City problems.

What the **** is he doing? This is not a balanced line-up at all. Who is going to connect midfield and attack? Who is going to break the lines?

I'm sorry but that starting 11 is not going to win us the game. The only consolation is that our bench looks incredible. And it's a good thing as well because we will need them.

I can see a loss here with that line up - City's midfield is going to dominate the game and that will put far too much pressure on the back line.
Yes we have attacking subs to come on, but they will not unless we are losing and them we'll be trying to salvage a draw.
I could almost understand this lineup away form home against Liverpool, but this time we're home. It's shocking that we're going with the negative approach.
    Too afraid to win.
Not sure i can bring myself to watch this having suffered the absolute ****e served up against Liverpool.

If we don’t win today then my first bit of faith will be lost in Arteta. Bored of looking at starting XIs like that. I don’t think I’ve ever yet been proved wrong by looking at a lineup like that and expecting it to be anything other than turgid, boring and ineffective. Always is rubbish, every single time.

That team will have given City a huge boost when it was read out in their dressing room.
Any fear they might have had after losing here 5-1 last year will be gone.

    **** sake.

Was that Gabriel who just kept backing off?

Just put a ****ing tackle in.

That's exactly why I wasn't confident for this game - Haaland is on fire right now.

    Awful team
    Awful start
    Now what?

Have to rescue it with subs.

    Martinelli on for Gyokeres
    Eze on for Merino
Saka on for Trossard, move Madueke left

also a really poor decision from Saliba.
Should have gone with Haaland and let Timber come across.

    Game looks lost now.
never know, but when you start a game not to lose and then go behind its very tough.
City might even run up a score here

Angers me slightly that Arteta keeps playing this central midfield three thinking anything different will ever happen. And Trossard on the left too to really hammer home the attacking mediocrity.

    No shots on target.
I have been worried about Gyokeres
    Now i am very worried.
Doesn’t seem to have any strengths to his game.

dude needs to step up now.
