Competition - Carabao Cup, EFL Trophy, 3rd Round
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 17 September 2025
    Kick off - 8pm

Following their hard fought 2-2 draw at home to Hull, next up for Alan Sheehan’s Swansea squad is a Carabao Cup tie and Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest.

Last Saturday, John Egan drilled home in the seventh minute of added time to give Hull City a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Swansea had been on course for victory after goals from Zan Vipotnik and Ronald came either side of Oli McBurnie's strike against his old club.

But Hull pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages and were rewarded when Egan lashed in on the rebound after Regan Slater's shot was blocked.

That meant Hull avoided a third successive Championship defeat, while Swansea were left frustrated despite extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to six matches.

Swansea stay seventh in the early-season league table.

On the same day, Martin Zubimendi scored his first Arsenal goals as the Gunners comfortably beat Nottingham Forest to give Ange Postecoglou a defeat in his first game in charge.

Former Tottenham manager Postecoglou had not beaten Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in the previous four matches they had faced each other in, with three losses and one draw.

That record did not seem likely to change as, although Forest showed promise in some of their play, Arsenal took charge of the match.

Arsenal's Noni Madueke, again starting on the right in place of the injured Bukayo Saka, was impressive as he seemed able to beat Morato every time he had the ball, while his inswinging corners caused problems for the Forest defence.

It was from one of these corners that Arsenal took the lead. Chris Wood headed one of Madueke's deliveries to the edge of the box and Zubimendi hit a powerful volley past Matz Sels with a slight deflection from Murillo.

Morgan Gibbs-White had the best chance for Forest when he shot wide from inside the penalty area following a counter-attack.

The Gunners doubled their lead one minute into the second half when Eberechi Eze, making his first start for Arsenal, teed up Viktor Gyokeres to tap in from close range.

Zubimendi then added his second with a header when he got on the end of substitute Leandro Trossard's cross.

The Swans have played Forest on 70 previous occasions, winning 26, losing 28 with 16 draws.

Without much doubt the most memorable match between the teams was the Championship Play Off semifinal second leg back in 2011, and who could ever forget this moment:

Turning to Wednesday evening, given that Postecoglou has said that he will get Forest playing as he wants by Wednesday, then I suspect that he will select a very strong team in the hope of securing his first win as Forest Manager.

As for the Swans, I’m assuming that Sheehan will again pick Fisher in goal and that we will see first starts for at Idah and Benson.

On paper, Forest - as the PL side - should win.

I’m going for a 1-1 draw, with the Swans winning on penalties - or at least I was until I realised that the infamous Bobby Madeley is the man in the middle….

    1-3 to Forest <cheers>

Thanks Taff.....heart says that we can beat Forest as they are struggling with new manager etc if we dont treat the game as a training exercise as we did against Plymouth....2-1 to us....theres money to be made with this cup....

Great thread, wish Pratley is with us on this one. I think it depends on the team Forest brings, on paper with their first team they should beat us. But if it’s mostly their second team then I think we have a good chance of a result. The heart says the Swans, the head Forest

    Thanks Taff.
I can't see us winning this one and the news about Bobby Madeley has reinforced that view! Its a 2-1 win for forest.

0-4, but hoping our team will rise to the occasion and prove me wrong.

I suppose if we are thinking this team could at least make the playoffs then in theory it should be a lot closer than my initial prediction of 0-4.
Maybe I’m just trying to convince myself….
