Some managers only fit certain clubs or types of clubs, maybe Wilder only really suits Sheffield United and away from there he'll struggle? I think that applies to Moyes, good at Everton and mostly good at West Ham, but a flop at Man U, here, Sociadad and his first stint at West Ham.
Maybe mate. Always need to remember a manager is a wheel in a cog. A big cog of course. But if other cogs dont work the manager is goosed. I dare say when he managed us there were some cogs not turning. Doesnt excuse his attitide though. Wilder did well in the lower leagues to earn his shot at Sheff Utd. Oxford in particular. At the same point he went into man u that had one of the most well oiled cogs there is and he royaly ****ed it there.
That was a club on the decline and a squad that needed work. Following Fergie was never going to be easy. Others have failed since with bigger reputatations than Moyes. Moyes biggest failure there was getting rid of backroom staff. He should have kept one or two on.
Moyes gave Ferdinand a DVD of Phil Jakielka playing, and told him that was how he expected a centre half to play. Ferdinand was past his best then, but that summed him up. He changed the training methods completely and found a way to alienate most of the senior pros. Tough job, but he did himself no favours. He was a disgrace here. Lazy, arrogant and incompetent. We were a hard club to manage, but BSA, with the same squad, managed not bad
All fair. My point remains I think Moyes record overall paints him as a good manager. He hasnt had 100% success but few have. Man Utd and their respective squads since Fergie have a track record of spitting out managers they dont like. It is a rudderless club, still. They arguably have been since Gill left to be honest, at least footballing wise. Woodward was a commercial guy who played the Glazers game.
That's been my argument about Man U for years. Ferguson and Gill had a good partnership and although Man U needed to overhaul the squad after Ferguson, it was still a decent squad. The real decline came when Mourinho was sacked, since then that's when the real churn in managers started. Both Van Gaal and Mourinho won trophies and had the team solidly in the top 5, Mourinho even had them as runners up to Man City, but I don't think that they were backed to build THEIR teams. Too many signings made for commercial reasons instead of footballing ones, players with rotten attitudes brought in disturbing the squad, players not being developed properly so they end up ruined, no clear leadership. Spiky characters like Van Gaal and Mourinho would push back at interference or not being backed and clash with the high ups, so they get replaced by more "pliant" ones who are used to having a director of football or a CEO being involved in transfers. Not saying they're yes men, but more likely to put up with some of it. So long as Man U make money commercially everything is good. But it's eroded the club from within and you end up in the mess they're in now.

Finances are more important than football in my opinion. Spurs are a business that isn’t overly concerned with major trophies … … as long as they do enough to bring the Sky, merchandising money and tourists in that’ll do. Same goes at West Ham, Man Utd, Newcastle and others to varying degrees.
Me too mate, he’ll get a good job somewhere behind the scenes, good coach and a good bloke but just not quite a main man
