Hang on - wasn't this the Country where a poor 18 year old British tourist was jailed for a romp in private with a 17 year old girl (another tourist) recently? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2r9y3kxy9o Seems it's OK to throw your moral standards at a hapless teenage kid and make an example of him to the masses, but there's quite another rule for the wealthy and well connected. Especially where the victims concerned are travelling to work there, not spend lots of money. What a surprise (not).
Free Speech in America https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0r5y33pj5o "Call them out, and hell, call their employer," Vance said as he guest-hosted an episode of the Charlie Kirk Show. "We don't believe in political violence, but we do believe in civility." That's a bit rich, coming from the man who was used by Donald Trump as an attack dog to demean and humiliate President Zelensky on camera in the White House, in front of an audience of billions. I don't recall much civility from Vance at that point. He was insulting a democratically elected leader of a Sovereign Nation, to the man's face. And as for not believing in political violence? Tell that to the families of the six innocent people killed in the Capitol riot of January 2020. I don't condone people celebrating the death of a person at the hands of an assassin. The incoming head of the Oxford Union for instance (a supposedly clever person) is a first class prat in my opinion for doing just that. But to pursue people with threats of sanctions, simply for holding that opinion? Civility, like free speech, must apply to everyone, or it is just a sham. In a free society you cannot call for the punishment of people for disagreeing with what you think. It seems in the USA today, free speech is confined to agreeing with what Vance and Trump believe. If you dare to differ, they call for you to be denounced and sanctioned.
The only caveat I would add is that it’s solely what Trump believes. Vance does whatever pleases Trump.
.I hear the Labour Party is plotting the downfall of Keir Starmer already behind the scenes. Can't say I'm surprised, all things considered.
Kirk may have been controversial but he did not deserve to die. People celebrating his death need to have a good look at themselves.
When Reform UK gets in I would expect them to abolish all these regional Mayors & their entourages, including Khan. A total waste of money surely in Reform's opinion - and they wouldn't be alone in thinking that. I believe Nigel is also planning to shut down the NHS and reduce all State benefits (excluding pensions) to zero. But hey, in politics you have to take the rough with the smooth.
Just read that Khan is due to be on a mere 170k a year. For this you would think he'd do people the courtesy of answering a question properly.
Apparently Landlords are "scared" by the new Renters Rights Bill. One of the few things, along with school breakfast clubs, that this Government is doing right in my view. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwywj3gj9z7o What, and I'm supposed to feel sympathy? Many tenants of private Landlords live in fear every day. Now let some Landlords have a taste of it. When so many have no home, I'm not shedding any tears for those who own two or more.
Any time I've heard him on LBC he's answered a variety of listeners' questions in great detail. What question do you have in mind?
I hear Greenwich Council is planning to scrap ALL free parking spaces in the borough soon, and presumably replace them with those '2 hour max stay' areas. No point complaining to the Mayor about that, he approves of the persecution of motorists. The weekend before last (the international break) my car was parked outside my old mum's place (the house I was raised in, and the one my Father was born in). It was there about 5 minutes longer than the two permitted hours. When I came out to leave a guy was noting down the number plate. Haven't had anything through the post yet. But my local postie only appears about twice a month.
At the moment the consequences of upsetting the Donald can be very costly indeed. In the Far East some entire Nations are being destabilised and their populations are threatened with lawless violence - the very collapse of civil order - simply because of massive trade tariffs imposed in a purely arbitrary fashion by the Trump Administration. In Africa, people with nothing, not even food or water, are dying in ever greater numbers because US aid has stopped. In the light of those events, I cannot blame Keir Starmer for brown-nosing the Orange One like his political life depends on it. Our PM (for all his failings) has likely preserved hundreds of thousands of UK jobs by holding his nose and sucking up to Trump. But Starmer has still been out-done by President Zelensky in my view. That man is a true leader. Humiliated beyond endurance by Trump - yet he did endure it. Having to swallow his pride because he knows the continued existence of Ukraine depends on the shifting whims of the most immature, self-centred and vain President in US history. Zelensky has the patience of a Saint. He is a great leader and Statesman. Trump will be back in America in 48 hours, the King and the PM can then scrub themselves clean and move on.
That may all well be true but surely you’d support him telling him to stick his fascist ideas where the sun don’t shine?
