So following our 0-0 smashing of our near neighbours (other opinions may be held and voiced) it's time to get it up again. A trip up Norf which isn't as grim as the KLF - Justified Ancients of Mu Mu's excellent pounding industrial techno classic claims. We're visiting a side which like ourselves have a new manager and squad following a period of upheaval under owner Acun Ilicali, involving a massive number of player signings and departures since 2022, along with managerial changes and issues with cash flow and delayed payments to suppliers. Our head to head reads W: 25, D: 21, L: 16. The bookies have us as favourites I'll go for a 3-1 away win for the super soaraway Saints.
Saints - W1, D3, L1, Pts 6, GF6, GA6, GD0 Hull - W1, D2, L2, Pts 5, GF7, GA11, GD-4 (they also scored 3 and conceded 3 in the cup Vs Wrexham) They seem like they've been involved in a lot of high scoring games, open at the back but can score goals. They've had a creditable 0-0 draw away to Coventry, but a poor 0-3 loss at home v Blackburn. Their only win so far was a 3-2 win against a strong relegation candidate in Oxford. As said on TSP, they're not anywhere near the team they were last time we faced them in the Championship when they had the likes of Philogene, Carvalho, Delap, Greaves (and probably some others I'm forgetting, + Rosenier as manager). They stayed up on the last day by the skin of their teeth last season (albeit with Selles in charge). If we are to get our season up and running we need to be winning this.
Really looking forward to this one. Hoping for a decent away end with it being an unfashionable northern one.
Hull and back So Saints are off to Hull and back We really need to win The football has been dull and flat The rewards are pretty thin Two points behind our fishy friends Is not the place to be We really need to make amends And earn another three I want to see some fight and fire I want to see Still's plan bear fruit I've had enough of football dire Let's rob the Tigers, steal the loot I know though, deep down in my soul It's one more pointless journey We'll lose it by a single goal From Oliver McBurnie The bonus though that helps me cope With seeing glory never Is if what kills you is the hope Then I'm going to live forever.

I'm a long way from writing him off but, I am hoping to see some of this high-pressing fast-paced football we were promised and haven't seen yet. I know the new signings have to bed in but I was really disappointed we didn't come out and have a real go at Pompey from the off. Hopefully we'll start to see it in this game... PS: If we're going to 'lump it forward' make sure the striker is taller than 4 foot!!
Here is an alternative take. Will Still sets them up exactly as we have asked and they don’t perform - maybe some of that is on the players? Still’s biggest issue is trusting last season’s players to be able to express themselves and make good decisions. It was clear whenever we relaxed a bit and played that we have the ability to- and the work in training - to create effective link ups. The questions need STILL to be addressed to a lack of on field leadership. Someone needs to start taking games by the scruff and showing we don’t need to panic. And I am sorry, but we have to be more patient with the players when we have the ball. If we continue booing every time we hold on to the ball all you will get is long ball.
