The way I saw it was that Ogilvy actually stopped running just in front of Fellows. Fellows had nothing he could do but to hit the back of him.
I`m baffled why our corners weren`t inswingers, right on top of him - anything could happen - he could flap/fumble it, could be a own-goal, somebody could score(!), could go for another corner etc. Instead we persisted with the outswingers away from him, and made it easier for the defence to deal with. I don`t get it.
I think they should play the reverse fixture mid week under floodlights with tickets purchased on the night with no travel restrictions
Spot on. Outswingers is obviously what was pre planned but this is the sort of situation where the players should take some responsibility imo. As soon as he came on we should have hit every corner hard and under the crossbar. Our corners in general were utterly ****e yesterday too. Barely cleared the first man.
How many goals do we score from corners. It must be a low percentage. In fact under Martin I think more teams were able to break away and score from our corners than we managed
I think J Rob could be a candidate, but it seems these days youngsters are having their natural ability coached out of them?
The only positive I can really take from yesterday, is despite Pompey giving it the big one again about winning a draw. They’ll have no better chance to beat us at St.Marys than they had yesterday. We were so **** first half in particular, and didn’t improve much second half, they just tired so we had more space and time on the ball to continue to do **** all with it. Our players looked lost and rattled by the occasion, they looked settled and confident in their game plan and still barely laid a glove on us. Massive wasted opportunity for them.
You don’t think it was an opportunity missed to beat us in our backyard? I don’t remember ever seeing us so limp in a home derby game. And you outplayed us for large parts of the game yet still only managed 1 shot on target. You might be happy with a point, call out the budget differences etc. but ultimately it’s on the players when the game starts and ours didn’t turn up and yours did…and it finished 0-0. I’m not happy with a point. But the way the game went I wouldn’t be as a Pompey fan either. We don’t play each other much. Wasted opportunity.
One of the earlier games this season, a commentator said the stats point to that we concede more goals from our corners than we score. Doesn’t surprise me
How many league goals have we scored from open play this year? Off the top of my head I think it’s 2? (Stephens v Wrexham, Robinson v Ipswich)
Yep, we are not creating nearly enough from open play and Still has been too defensive in his set up so far imo. Moving to a back four is a start but Charles and Downes are too similar and maybe Jander coming in will help to increase the flow of possession to the creative players.
