Those long balls in the to Archer were awful. He was up against two absolute giants and just had no chance of winning anything against them. Surprised it took Still 70 minutes to get Stewart on.
At times we played like a team that hadn't played many competitive matches together, which in fact was true in some cases, I am sure when the newbies settle in and get more playing time they will click, but it won't happen overnight. We need some of that Scouse "luck" where they get opposition players sent off late (like Ogu) and then get given a penalty iin the 95th minute, that will always get you results!
BBC report quote:- Both sets of fans walked out to a deafening wall of noise at St Mary's Stadium for the much-anticipated fixture. Where were you when this happened?
Where were you sat? I was Kingsland halfway line (only tickets I could get) where the atmosphere is usually awful, but it was decent. Being positioned about halfway between the Northam and away fans gives me a pretty good idea of which fans I could hear and it was 100% not just away fans making noise.
Truth is, I am getting a bit hacked off with the constant criticism of the fans and their response, there are some new guys near where I am sat in Kingsland North and they were giving it everything they could, despite the dross on the pitch. Saints fans can be as good as any, but they need motivation and its obvious that the flat pack stadium accoustics don't help and lack of quality in the games is letting us down. We need nourishment not punishment. We need encouragement, not criticism and perhaps a couple of choir masters in the Northam to co-ordinate the chants?
Agreed, this thread has been around so long that it reminds me when I was 7 and waiting for Christmas as I thought I was getting the Action Man with eagle eyes and gripping hands only to get the Six Million Dollar Man instead. All that anticipation and a bit underwhelming on the day. Oh and Father Christmas doesn't exist btw.
This is where Leicester are benefitting from having someone of Fatawu's class. From the bits I've seen from Leicester, they too don't appear to be clicking yet, But largely due to Fatawu's individual genius, they've still managed to generate a decent return of points. Ipswich very much clicked into gear on Friday night. But then they were only up against Selles.
Christ please no ultra style stuff. The fact is the stadium layout change hasn't worked as it was never the problem in the first place. I believe it's made a bad situation worse. The two problems with our atmosphere are lack of songs and simply the fact that we're quite fairweather these days. My experience of the northam last season is that there are too many people in there to experience the atmosphere without contributing to it.
And don't forget last time we had (for one game) JWP & Tella, then for the rest of the season Che, Stuart and KWP.
Right, i've had a day to reflect and the thing that worried me the most about our performance was the lack of commitment and energy from the start. This is why I think that the home support dwindled as the match went on (it was loud at the start). I'm yet to see evidence of tactical nous from WS during the matches and there is very little tempo and pass and move and the only game plan appears to be to try and work a position to cross the ball which reminds me a little of the Pellegrino era. Of course it is early days with a brand new team but they should've been well up and motivated for it yesterday. As others have said Jander must come in in the middle for Downes most likely and we need to try and boss the midfield more, at home especially. I hope that Still perseveres with the back four and hopefully things will start to click but we need more passion from the team especially at SMS.
Agree with all that. Note: We’ve been starved of home league performances & especially wins; actually win! 1x since 17apr24 ONE (& that was very fortunate). We’ve never been a raucous crowd & I think it’s a bit inbred now.
