Yeah, he was very wide, but still had enough angle to stick it in, he’s a good enough finisher! Or he could have cut in again to open up more angle. Both would have been better options then putting it across the box given the lack of support.
We had a net spend of £72m. Portsmouth had a net spend of £2.66m. We ought to be battering them. I expect us to over 2 matches this season.
But they have one of the best coaches in the division. There is no entitlement in this league. I think that this kind of mentality is what has been wrong in this thread. It was never going to be an easy match. We will be a different match in January and we will give Portsmouth more of a game. I do think Portsmouth will be pushing for a play off position, though.
I think that mentality is also what is wrong with some of the team (hi Flynn). I’d like to see those new faces brought in to start sooner than later..
Just reading the match report on the been and apparently this is only the second 0-0 between us ever* with the last one in 1924! *I assume they'll actually be talking football league era so 1920.
Jo Tessum raised some sensible points on the radio and probably made the right call that the new signings were not ready for the derby. Funny that Downs has been singled out as the commentary was not too favourable towards Charles either . I thought Roeslev looked poor but , then again , I have to say I think Ross Stewart looks to be our most ineffectual player. He looks like League One at best. Only Fraser stood out for us today although I though Manning had his moments . Azaz and Fellows will come good. I did make the comment in August that it will take Saints until after the Portsmouth match to get under steam. It is matter of being patient.
By the way does anyone know why they stopped people using the footbridge at some point after FT today? Directed everyone to Britannia Road which seemed a bit odd.
It took aged to get out of the ground today. The fan zone and the live band area was stationary for ages. After the walk back to the car and the traffic on the M3 , we did not get back until nearly 4pm.
https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/25465730.southampton-v-portsmouth-two-arrests-derby-clash/ Two arrests. Can't believe I forgot about the dickhead who ran on the pitch. Moron. Two other things which stick out from that article: "A second man, aged 28 and from Portsmouth, was arrested during the match on suspicion of fraud by false representation after he claimed to be a steward at St Mary’s to enter the stadium." How the **** did they initially get away with that? Shambles "Prior to kick-off a number of red flares were set off by Saints fans, filling the front of the stadium with red smoke and chants. One incident saw a young child chased and pulled aside by club security and police after he decided to set off a flare on one end of the fanzone. The security guard quickly tackled the child who dropped the flare in the commotion ." Depends on the definition of young I guess but tackling them surely sounds a bit excessive for a child?
It took me ages to even get outside due to people blocking the stairs who wanted to do the hard man act with the stairs. By the time I got round to the Northam they had stopped anyone using the footbridge. Just seemed a bit odd.
I always thought tackled meant tackled to the ground like a rugby tackle? Like I say it depends what they mean by young but if they're 10 or under them that would be unnecessarily excessive imo.
I think there was a bit of fear, a bit of "we're better than them" misplaced arrogance, a bit of Martinball hangover still from the aforementioned, and most of all a bit of surprise at how well drilled, organised and competent Pompey were. Much as we hate to do it, I think Pompey and Mousinho deserve a lot of credit for today.
