The mistake people are making is to think we were set up to play long ball. We clearly weren’t. The players panicked under Pompey pressure and bottled it.
Probably sad Ipswich or Rangers didn’t work out. Thought he was atrocious today. His movement off the ball was non existent. I appreciate he’s a DM but when we’ve got the ball & moving forward, a simple 2-3 steps left/right/forward opens up the middle. Did nothing.
Have to say, a sensible approach. With our journey home during the match, I watched half of the first half at my son’s house before having to continue once HT arrived. What I saw was pretty poor from us and looked like the players had not even met before the game but let’s be realistic and patient as you’ve indicated.
QUOTE; Couldn’t hear anything from the Northam. Supposed to be 5,000 fans there, and yet they can’t be heard 100 yards away. I am in Kingsland North and I can assure you there was plenty of noise there, my ears are still ringing. You must be in a duff area where the accoustics are bad. Could barely hear the Skate supporters where i am. I will take a point off skate as a birthday present, they should have won, but they blew it, chosing to play just getting in the way rather than actual football, near the end it was kick Scienza time, how did they get away with that? I reckon Bishop had a crush on Jack S, the amount of time he spent hugging him in the area! Luckily Jack stayed firm and I thought he had a decent game today. The referee was abysmal.
I was screaming at us to test their keeper without even knowing his ‘level’. Absolute piss take we didn’t.
I have this thing I believe in that any keeper who has to be subbed on during game should be tested within 5-10 minutes of coming on. Just ****ing shoot somebody!
Fair result in my opinion. Thought we were excellent first half and you lot dominated the second. Neither team really looked liked scoring, so goalless draw it is.
I agree. You guys were fantastic first half and we looked scared. I thought Swanson was superb second half to help keep you in it.
After all the build up, after all the hype, after all the money we spent, after all the expectations, that was as poor a performance as you could see when you have a point to prove. I don't agree with singleing out individual players to blame today. That was a poor team performance all round. Even though we improved 2nd half, it's inexcusable not to have tested their keeper. Apart from the disappointment of the derby game this was on the back of a string of others which doesn't help. Fwiw, I think we have got the recruitment right and we will click. Not a game to over react on
Managed not to find out the result, which was a shame on reflection! Disappointing result, but a typical derby to be honest. Long ball up to Archer was never going to be the one, but as a lot of us have said, it’s pointless trying to judge anything much before the end of September. Can see Downes quickly losing his starting spot to Jander. Ref was dreadful, as per.
Can't believe all the excuses the fans have ready made for the team and Still. That was as bad as anything we've seen in the SR era and apparently we should just be patient Which of our players today looked exhausted coming off? Who gave it their all? Who looked to take the ball forward and take on their man? Where were the leaders? They looked like they couldn't have give a **** at FT. We could spend £70 ****ing billion on our midfield and it wouldn't matter because apparently our tactics is for the defence to smash it up as high and far as they can. You lot can dress it up as much as you like but it's simply unacceptable to have one shot on target at home in the derby. We didn't lose only because Portsmouth are ****ing ****.
I mean, Still agrees with you. It isn’t like anyone is saying we were good. It was very frustrating. the first half was not good enough. I think we have literally wasted 45 minutes of what we were doing by taking things too literally and too stereotypically," Still told BBC Radio Solent. “When you are playing a 4-2-3-1 you need a bit of movement and personality on the ball and to open space. “Away from that it was a bit of a stop-start game. There was a lot of free-kicks, throw-ins, goal kicks and it just sort of flattened things to be honest. "But maybe that was what they wanted, they probably came here for that and got what they wanted so fair play to them for that. “I just want to win games of football. I was more frustrated with the scenario of the game, it was just very stop, start, long balls, second balls, fouls. It just did not get into the flow of what it could have been, what it should have been, so we have to fix that.”
I still haven’t seen a win since Everton on the 2nd November 2024. Have only missed a couple of home games since too. And people wonder why we have very little patience.
I think there is no problem with that. We are all frustrated! I just don’t see it as bleakly as some others do.
I hate this argument. My son does it when he is playing online. How did that guy beat me??? He is ****tt!!! Aren’t you just insulting yourself? Anyway, I thought you guys looked good.
