Aye that’s what though. So essentially the rotting steel softens the concrete, meaning it’s not strong enough to hold the weight, and it cracks. Doesn’t sound ideal.
Aye. The rebar expands, and there is nowhere for it to go, it starts cracking the concrete. Anywhere they find it as part of the structure , it can't be fixed .
It would be brilliant if the council classes it as unsafe if it can't be fixed, the meltdown will be astronomical
Hopefully it was diagnosed a lot of years ago then. I clutch at many straws for anything bad to happen to the twats
Wasn't that the reason the top half of the Roker End was chopped off. I can distinctly remember holes appeared at the very back through which you could see rusty metal. About April 82. By the summer it was truncated, presumably to stop the "concrete cancer" spreading.
It might have been, but the Roker End was much older then the Sid James extension that's supposed to be in the worst state. I was only a kid when the Roker End was cut down, but by then it was nearly 70 years old. The Millburn Stand and Leazes End extensions are barely 25 years old.
"As for the new state of the art training ground, The Times say we should hopefully hear by the end of the year about what is planned, an announcement by the Newcastle United owners in either November or December is expected. Meanwhile £20m is being spent on the existing training ground. As for a far bigger Newcastle United stadium, the report says that it is expected that an announcement won’t come until the new year at the earliest."
Sounds like they've had the cowboys in. Fat Freddie was desperate to make sure Sid James had a higher capacity than us.
No idea really. Anything I've said is kind of parroted from my mate. Mind, the Roker End always looked a bloody dodgy affair!

I've always said that, they couldn't stand the fact the SOL was bigger than Skunks Park, so had to build it bigger. When I was a student a friend of mine was a mag who knew a couple of people through his dad involved with the mags. He told me that when they were building the Leazes End when they first went up Freddie Fletcher, the then CEO came up with plans to extend the ground to over 45k. A different, bigger design on the Gallowgate End and a whole rebuild on the Millburn Stand with a new tier added. The capacity would have been well over 45k. It's why there was a delay in building the Gallowgate End after the Leazes End was done. But Hall knocked it back, no idea why though. My own guess is that it was all to do with Hall wanting the season ticket money and an increased capacity might mean people would take a chance on not getting a season if they weren't able to fully afford it. Keeping it lower and harping on about 18 month waiting lists basically forced people to pay the prices they demanded for fear of missing out. But that's my own theory and could be miles wrong, especially knowing what an egotist Hall was/is.
Christ, I'm all for being proud of your heritage, but getting a tattoo of an alcoholic tramp from behind the central station is taking it a bit too far.
Really? I always found it a great place and the bareness of it made it look solid. I moved to the Fullwell End when they lopped the top half off.
