Can they afford to sack Martin is the question.

Chris Wilder is expected to be reappointed as Sheffield United's new manager Sky Sports News understands.

What an absolute sh@tshow Sheff Utd are. Cant believe Wilder would even consider going back after the way that they treated him.

I agree, but Selles really didn't have much of a track record to go on. A caretaker at Southampton, did ok at Reading but hard to judge due to the clubs ownership problems, then did alright keeping Hull up. But Hull shouldn't really have been in that situation with the squad they had on paper, they were in a mess because of that loopy German coach they had at he start of the season. All told he might have been completely out of his depth managing a team expecting to do well when he's actually more suited to fire fighting with teams with problems.

Potter I still think is a decent manager, but he's made the classic mistake of taking the first job available after being sacked, but it's a club with problems. West Ham were on the slide under Moyes in his last season, so I think the problems are more deep set than people think. That said he's done badly and his reputation has taken a massive hit and he shows no sign of turning things around. It can't be long before he's gone, but it'll be interesting to see what happens next with him.

Martin I'm no fan of and think he's been lucky to have managed the teams he's done without anything to back it up. Dogmatically sticking to one way of playing even when it doesn't suit his players, he seems to have already fallen out with some of his players. After this and Southampton he'll be lucky to get a bottom championship job next and unless he learns (which he shows no sign of doing) it'll be downhill from now on.

Sheff Utd made a big mistake in sacking Wilder. Not sure where the decision making sat with that one, but I am not convinced it was a clear cut decision internally. I mean if you have any sort of footballing awareness and you are on that decision making committee you keep him. Surely. His record speaks for itself and he would do anything for that club. Somebody, somewhere, got carried away with the idea of a more exciting type of manager, on paper anyway.

Then of course they dont do a great job of changing up a squad.

I would be very surprised if the players dont lay out ths red carpet for Wilder personally. He wont be everyones cup of tea but he will get that squad playing and winning football matches. To be honest, Sheff Utd decision makers are lucky he will go back, they dont deserve someone so capable after the summer.

All true but the reality is that new managers are almost always appointed because the previous one failed or was deemed to have failed …

… how we’ve managed to erase all traces of Beale is a testimony to the selective memory of Sunderland supporters.

Uncle Joe would’ve been proud :emoticon-0103-cool:

No chance he'll walk. He's not even forty yet, he has a lot of life to pay for yet.

He'll get the boot, get another job down here, maybe even in the championship, flunk that, then end up on the box telling Guardiola and Slot where they are going wrong.

Yep. Not an easy bloke to like at all, but Sheff Utd were not going to win that league this year. They needed someone to keep them competitive and get them into the top six.

Hubris from America owners who think you can do overnight what it takes others,( including us) years to do.

There are some good players there, good enough to get up the league, but the coach does count, whatever their computer tells them.

Get this appointment wrong and they could have a very bad season.

Wilder is an arsehole and could fall out with Mother Theresa. Isn’t hard to work out to me. He did a lot of good last season but his lack of discipline and I’d argue wisdom cost them. Look at the final - so wound up they started like a train and ran themselves into a hole. He’s short on the grey stuff if you ask me. As is the person reappointing him I’d suggest. There are others out there who are stable.

"Alexa, show me an example where football club owners dont have a clue what they are doing"

I hate wilder, he comes across as an absolute arrogant prick. Saying that I hope he got to keep the compensation and has increased his salary as it's embarrassing what they have done.

I think that's a key to it, if not be surprised if he'd not rubbed the new owners up the wrong way so they got rid of him. But, unfortunately for them, they've messed up his replacement.

Saying that I'll repeat what I said last season, for all the points they won they never really impressed me. A lot of there performances seemed to be the small margins went in their favour, but could easily have went the other way. The game against us is an example, we were the better team but missed a penalty and they won it with a late goal from our defensive mistake. I thought at the time if we scored the penalty, we'd have won, but without the mistake we get a draw. Most of the games I saw of them felt the same, a few wins that could easily have been draws and a few draws that could have been defeats. Maybe some of these results they're having now would have happened under Wilder anyway, but if he was popular with the players it might have been easier to put right or get them geed up.

    Know him personally do you?

Wilder has proven over the years he gets sides winning games. The lad they replaced him with is miles off. The club got it badly wrong by sacking him, and I dare say they are counting the cost of that. Wonder if the one wielding the axe is getting the sack? Doubtful I suppose.
