Yes,I like it myself. Glasgow has some good murals dotted around the place(including a few Billy Connolly ones) but they haven't really picked up on this particular angle in terms of musicians, actors, actresses etc. Hull is actually fairly blessed with recognisable figures and talents.
There's a nice one of Rover at the top end of Buckingham Street. https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/new...ws/stunning-new-holderness-road-mural-1560735
I met one of my old teachers down Ferensway a few years back. I played for the school football team as a 10 year old when he was the coach. He was also involved in the Hull City Boys set up at Boothferry Park for years, over 50 to my knowledge, right up to his retirement, without ever getting any recognition from the FA or even the club. Opening bat for Hull Cricket Club too. Top man and a good teacher too, proper old school and a gentleman now sadly no longer with us. He was partly blind by now and walked with a white stick, he must have been well into his 80's when I bumped into him down Ferensway, and I had not attended his school for well over 50 years. I introduced myself and he said straight away, bright as a bell, 'Ah, ( said my surname), full back, you scored an own goal on your debut for school, ball came in from the wing, hit you on the thigh and went into the net, you were distraught for a week'......and I was but............... I'd totally forgotten about that moment and he brought it straight back to me. Which was an amazing memory considering the number of boys he had coached or taught in his career, and he recognised me straight away by my voice. An incredible man. He was 100% Hull City all his life too. His claim to fame was 'discovering' Andy Payton, because of 'the brightness of his eyes'.
Freddie Cowell A great man Sadly never had children himself I don’t think. Him and his wife were a lovely couple and totally devoted to each other. I was doing some work in ferriby years ago and saw him in his garden and went over and introduced myself Spent an hour in the garden with him and his wife chatting about football. He told me off for not trying harder at school and doing a dead end job, a year later I went to university, And for not making the most of my footballing ability. They don’t make them like him anymore
No kidding - slight understatement there on every level - but it’s ok someone else is ripping you off at some high level !
A key phase of the A63 Castle Street Project is now complete meaning that the exit slip road from the A63 to Princes Dock St will be open from tomorrow.
Looking something like a finished road now but when I take a look on a weekend no one is working, did they extend the opening date by a year so that they don't have to pay overtime? I did wonder, same with Queens Gardens, extended but no work being done on a weekend. I don't doubt that when it is all finally finished it will enhance the City Centre, but is so achingly slow. And as for the old BHS store, I've given up seeing anything done on that, yet the new diagnostic centre on Albion St seemed to built in no time.
it's gonna be a great bit of road - last week I visited my brother at Keyingham, left there at 15.30 and wasn't stopped by traffic until I got to the Humber Bridge roundabout, I can't remember an easier drive out of Hull, ever!
Trouble is the rest of the road network in Hull, we don't have a proper ring road, I believe that Hall Road is part of one but gridlock is easily to come by. An accident or breakdown and on the A63 and it doesn't take long for traffic jams to form. But on the bright side any construction for Hull is a plus, especially infrastructure. Now to get the rail connections improved, many promises, but as so often happens with Hull it's mostly hot air.
For night games we take it in turns to drive, when I pick Steverico up at 16-00, from Thorngumbald, it's always a straight run to an HRI park up. Try the reverse journey at that time though. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
It'll be better when finally finished, but as soon as there's an accident, or breakdown, it's gridlock. Oh, and don't get me started on the road markings either side of Myton bridge. All three lanes either side have white arrows painted on the road pointing straight ahead, actually the inside lanes are left/right turns only.
