Some breaking news ahead of this fixture - Nuno Espirito Santo is set to be sacked by Nottingham Forest. They could well be managerless heading into that game at The Emirates.
I know there's been a big bust up at Forest, but it's mental that they've sacked him Expecting Forest to tank this season now
Well, I think they're definitely going to tank now as they're replacing Nuno with Postecoglou No idea what Marinakis is thinking with this appointment, especially as their styles are polar opposites, but hey ho. Reportedly, the Forest players are deeply unhappy with the decision to change head coach and some are considering their futures already...I know Marinakis has done a good job at Forest overall (despite his rashness and impatience, can't ignore Forest's improvements over the last few years), this one feels like it could backfire horribly.
Odegaard, Eze, Madueke and Gyokeres from the start please. If I see Trossard or Martinelli anywhere near the pitch I'm going go mental. Put these ****ers to the sword and boost our GD.
I hope on Saturday the guy plays all out like he did with Spurs - we will have a load of space to attack if he does.
Saliba is in contention to start this game, but Saka remains out (though is apparently close). Norgaard and Ben White were back in full training too, which can only be good news in terms of our depth options.
I'd keep Saliba on the bench - personally I would like him replaced and sold in January if he's not going to sign his contract. We need players committed long term.
I'd keep Saliba on the bench anyway, no need to rush him back and it gives Mosquera game time. Surely thats why we have a squad of this level at these numbers. I want to see both Odegaard and Martinelli dropped to the bench and Eze given a start. Nwaneri and Dowman should be options later in the game. WE should be looking to absolutely spank Notts Forest, they are a shell of the team they were last season. Statement of intent this, Arteta needs to shake off that horrid stench of cowardly defeat from last time out !
That bench is actually pretty damn good considering no Saliba, Saka, Jesus, Havertz or Norgaard. Surprised to see Rice on the bench though.
1-0. HT. Zubimendi's wonder volley from the edge of the box the difference so far. We've been much the better side and are well worth the lead. They had 1 shot the entire half. The patterns of play and speed at which we're playing is a big positive. The downsides are that we haven't extended the lead and Odegaard going off injured with (what looks like) a repeat of that shoulder injury. Nonetheless, Ethan's done well since coming on and we just need to hope we can kill this off second half.
2-0. Gyokeres! Eze with the assist! What a way to start the second half! Superb pass by Calafiori over the top to Eze. Honestly, the Italian is such a good player. Just needs to stay fit.
Did Chris Wood mean that?! He hits the bar with a chested effort. Looks like Raya got a finger tip save on it also. Let's not start ceding territory and letting them get into the game. Need to get control of this.
Gyokeres smashes the crossbar after some good interplay between him and Madueke (who has had a tremendous game it has to be said).
Madueke and Eze off. Trossard and Martinelli on. I know Madueke didn't get a goal or assist, but he had a superb game. Direct, beat his fullback repeatedly, put in some dangerous crosses, caused chaos with his mazy runs and stretched their defence on multiple occasions. He deserved a goal or assist for his display.
