For an away game, at least until all the new players are bedded in, I'd prefer a more conservative line-up. Put Gelhardt back out wide in place of Akintola, Amir (I chickened out) and Lundstram deeper with maybe Gyabi if fit enough or Slater further forward. Get to 60 mins then (unless we're ahead) change it up with Gelhardt coming inside and Belloumi out wide. Gelhardt as a 10 isn't the worst idea in the world, but it didn't work last time out and we need to sort out the defensive side of things more urgently than we need to improve the attacking (which is already going pretty well and much better than last season). IMHO anyway.
I fully agree with what you say, and I would also go for a slightly more pragmatic line up. But according to the Gaffer Darko is not ready to start and will be on the bench, so I guess you could go with Slater, but he hasn't had the best start to the season.
Thats what I am thinking. Same front 3 also. Am looking forward to seeing Gyabi and Hadziahmetovic (who will be referred to by me for the rest of the season as the 'Bosnian lad')
I think the issue last time wasn't Gelhardt in the 10, it was Slater in the pivot. Hadziahmetovic should hopefully rectify that.
I think we will be more defensively sound with Lundstram any either of the new guys. I don’t think Slater offers much defensive protection. Maybe no surprise that our points have come in games he wasn’t employed in this role.
No single player is responsible for conceding 12 goals in 5 games. It's tactical. Maybe we need to just be less gung ho?
But he’s an 8 too so it will be pretty similar. We have 4 8’s what we really needed was a 6. And maybe a 26.
I agree. But Slater has won 1 tackle so far this season. Lundstram in comparison has won 11. While we are too gung-ho, we also need players in the middle who are capable of turning over possession.
We obviously could do with a win, but I’ll take a draw away to Swansea. I think getting the new players bedded in, we should see an improvement. I’d like to see Amir & Lundstram start as 6 & 8.
Probably keep him on the bench for another week. Nice for Sergej to finally have a few selection headaches though.
