I did my swimming lessons at Albert Ave. The swimming teacher was some old biddy, don't remember her name. We also had the Cubs Swimming Gala in one of the indoor pools. Ah, the memories. Other than the lessons didn't really go there much as South Hunsley had/has a great pool so was always there.

After swimming there, we went over the road to the sweet shop, and it was the owner there that told us Kennedy had been shot.

I remember that sweet shop. I used to swim with the Olympic swimming club in Albert Ave. The coach was a short squat fella who looked like he'd sink if he went in the water!

My favourite sweet shop used to be one in Prestongate in Hessle, was always in there with my sweet tooth, which meant the dentist was fun as well.

Back from a visit to Munich, amazing city, world class museums exploring German design and history, they had a full messerschmitt 109, V1, V2 and the enigma 4 machine in one, felt like a good time to visit pre Oktoberfest, reasonable prices and easy access to the Hofbrauhaus whenever we wanted and an international car show going on. Found loads of stuff to do from ww2 history to watching young Germans surfing rapids in the Englischer Garten to a train trip to Salzburg. Top city break.

Lots of talk of Albert Ave on the holiday thread, I have fond memories of many happy days there in the 50"s along with other watering holes in the City but I am surprised that peop[e are going on holiday there now.

Agree and saw lots of bauhaus stuff in the Pinakothek der Moderne, also saw Rudolph Diesels first engine, and Adolph's Fuhrerbau, too much to see didnt even get to Bayerns stadium. Amazed how many of the locals wore lederhosen and how many shops sold it, their very traditional oompah culture was very evident.

You find in Germany the Berliners think the Bavarians weird and the Bavarians think the Berliners are somewhat decadent ( read perverted) bathing naked in a public park in summer etc . Did a road trip to Munich the massive wide boulevard leading out of the centre impressed me for the wrong reasons you could picture the Nazi parade and crowds making it some spectacle for the wrong reasons. Nice city in general but not as developed in the centre as you’d think for its size .

Yes. We had to fly from Stansted on Easyjet. You will probably only go to the biggest one, Sao Miguel. There is a small city, Ponta Delgado, and lots of great scenery. They have hot springs in the North East and a restaurant that cooks food underground from the heat. There is a hot water outdoor swimming pool at a hotel on that side too. The big touristy bit is Sete Cidades. It's two lakes next to each other. One is blue and the other is green. We had a decidedly dodgy car hire but there are lots of tours.

The restaurants in Ponta Delgado were good, as was the Portuguese wine.

Tour ships call in so the city can be very over crowded when they do.
