What’s your gut feeling, selling or he’s changed his thinking and in it for the long run? I’m going to guess at selling…
A very positive move, credit to Acun for doing this, it puts the club's balance sheet in a much healthier state.
I'm trying to find out a little more before committing, but whatever the reason, it's lowered the clubs debt so it's a win
A cash injection would make more sense to cover future payments. Converting debt to equity makes more sense if there’s imminent outside investment or a complete takeover.
I go out for a long walk (hike) and come back to this update! Come on Acun, stop it!! This is getting silly now I see there's a couple who still can't bring themselves to accept the reality of what's actually happening.
If they’ve placed us on a business plan they could. However, I suspect it would’ve been stipulated publicly.
Is it definitely Acun that’s put the money in? Or could it just generally be someone investing via Acun?
I don’t profess to know anything re. all the whys and wherefores of the situation, I can only see this as a positive. I think the words we’re all looking for are “thank you, Acun?” Let’s concentrate on what we can affect, on the pitch/match day. Onwards & upwards UTT.
Wouldn’t it, sort of as you say I think (?), make most sense to do it at the point of sale rather than before? That way paying off debt could be on the table as a part of negotiations?
Unless he wants to make the club more attractive to potential investors/buyers. If the rumours me and Howden and others have heard are true (using ‘if’ so GFAW doesn’t throw a massive paddy) then he’s been wanting to sell for over a year but is struggling to find a serious buyer. The stumbling block is probably the club’s debt to Acun Medya. It was around £60 million in the last set of accounts and it’s likely to have increased since then. Nobody is going to spend £60-80 million on a club that doesn’t own its stadium with average-to-poor training facilities. The only real assets are the players. In order to make a sale easier, the debt needs to go down. Knocking £14.5 million off will go a long way.
Ah come on now. No one really knows why this has happened now - all of this is theories - including yours.
This is a very good article explaining it. I implore you to read the first paragraph or two specifically https://www.gannons.co.uk/insights/debt-for-equity-swap-overview-and-brief-guide/
