- Mason Burstow played 56 minutes and scores before going off injured in Bolton's 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon - Thimothée Lo-Tutala played the full game in Doncaster's 3-1 win over Bradford City. I believe it was his error that led to Bradford's goal - Harvey Cartwright played the full game in Hartlepool's 1-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers - Rocco Coyle was an unused sub in Boston's 2-1 defeat to Solihull Moors - Stan Hewitt started in Bridlington's 1-0 win over Mossley
I’ve not seen him do a great deal in the 2 games I’ve seen him play for Bolton (although he scored in both games). He was relatively anonymous yesterday. He did react quickest to a header off the post to score from close range. I don’t think he’s got much to offer above League One, so hope he scores a hatful of goals and we get as much money back on him as possible.
Well if he carries on his average and gets 26 goals in League One, we'll be making a healthy profit on him.
Apart from a few moments for us I thought he was more style over substance. I was hoping he’d prove me wrong at Bolton and look a class above while scoring a hatful of goals. His goals return so far has been decent but from the snapshot I’ve seen of him, his performances haven’t ‘yet’ change my mind.
I do think it's forgotten how young Burstow is. Not necessarily in age terms but in how much/little football he's actually played. He's just turned 22, but he's never got more than 1000 minutes in a season and he's only just got past 30 career starts too. Getting 30/40 games under his belt is going to do him the world of good and it's probably only fair to judge him once he's had that
I bit harsh in my opinion, even when he was with us, I thought on balance he was a better bet than Joseph. Often goal scores don't do a lot, but they are in the right place for the most part at the right time. Certainly, he is very well liked by the Bolton faithful, which is often a good indication.
I agree I think he looked like he had more technical ability than Joseph did and he still has more Championship goals in a City shirt than Kyle Joseph does. Ideally Joseph’s goal against Brizzle is going to get him going (even if he develops into a Tom Eaves style player, which is what I think will happen and that’s not a bad thing, I rated Tom Eaves even if a lot of others didn’t) and Burstow can have a confidence boosting season in the division below.
In the couple bolton games i saw Burstow looks a step above that level His link up play, touch Passing stands out So does that duberry who was at blackburn last season Whatever happens to him He will be a much better player come august 2026 after a season of playing regularly instead of coming off our bench this season
Must have been different games we saw I watched Saturdays game and he touched the ball 14 times, twice in the box (one of them being his tap in goal). Id heard he’d being doing well so took an interest in his performance and it wasn’t much to write home about. I accept I’ve just seen a small sample and hope the lad does well for everyone’s benefit. He might be better than Joseph but in a few years time that might not be saying much.
Whether Burstow is better than Joseph or not, a season away on loan was the right move for him. Whereas Joseph needs to either succeed or fail with us.
- Matty Jacob played the full game in Reading's 3-2 defeat to Barnsley - Mason Burstow played 78 minutes in Bolton's 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient - Thimothée Lo-Tutala played the full game in Doncaster's 3-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic - Harvey Cartwright played the full game in Hartlepool's 0-0 draw with Brackley Town - Rocco Coyle played 71 minutes in Boston's 1-1 draw with Southend United - Abdülkadir Ömür played 62 minutes in Antalyaspor's 2-1 win over Samsunspor - Abu Kamara came on in the 68th minute in Getafe's 2-0 win over Real Oviedo
So Burstow's injury wasn't as bad as first feared. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
