Is it possible we are also gett8ng a better chance to play nice football down here and in the Championship there was always less chance?
No doubt there's a bit more time to play in L1, but do you think Erol, his tactics and the players he chose would have shone at this level? We'll never know. We could have tried to play nice football in the Championship and still finished bottom. We'll never know. Enough teams have played decent football in the championship and succeeded in the past. Fingers crossed we get a chance to find out next year. A lot can go wrong before that happens though. Another question to ask is do we think we'd be top of L1 and unbeaten with Erol, his tactics and his players? We'll never know.
Better players and coaches in the Championship. If we can maintain our progress we can do a lot better there next season.
Don’t forget as Riza told the Sky audience before the Peterborough game that if he was given the last 3 games he’d have kept us up & by inference been in a position to mount a promotion campaign to the PL. Deluded or what
I agree Riza would not have been a good fit or successful but it does seem that the arrival of BBM, youngsters developing through and a drop has all allowed an overall positive development that might not have been so good if we had stayed up. A trifecta that will hopefully pay dividends. In many ways it already has.......all seem a bit happier on here and if we get up and carry on the development, who knows we might get.
Not hearing much, or anything at all for that matter from the trumpeted "Fan's Leader", South African benefactor, Gareth Bale & Co now BBM is in and we've got off to an excellent start. Has Tan got lucky, or maybe - have we?
Despite Tan and the board, the planets have aligned. I hope they recognise how lucky they got, what ingredients came together and that they need to learn what ingredients they are so it can be repeated. We've spent enough time learning what doesn't work. Time to learn what does. One of those ingredients is for them to keep their noses out of footballing matters. One being no more 'club signings'. And whatever they do, don't p!$$ off BBM. We don't want to lose him, we've only just found him.
While Tan and the Chuckle Brothers' forays into the transfer market have been generally crap let's not forget the one very positive factor funded by VT - the Academy. Our relegation was the vehicle needed to give the youngsters their chances which they have taken to the nth degree. I'm not sure we would have been so brave in the Championship.
Im sure sparkey will correct me, I've had a few things wrong lately. I thought it was Sam who got the ball rolling with the academy. Tan certainly funded its refinement, but the groundwork was in place. A pity we wasted millions on players no better than the academy was producing in the last decade. You're correct though. The reset would never have happened if we'd stayed up. More managers wanting 'tried and trusted' players, rather than unproven youth. It would be interesting to list the flops that have cost millions compared to the youngsters we let go as not good enough. Im not saying the likes of Mark Harris were top drawer, but compare them to Cornelius, Madine, Frédérick Gounongbe, and that feller beginning with a V whose name my memory refuses to remember, he was a world beater when it came to £s per goal. And currently playing a division above us. And there are others. Some of our current youngsters are a cut above that, and Im still nervous with them all in the team together, but there have been a few that would have left a chunk of change in the bank without us being worse off on the pitch. Im not expecting a glut of players coming through every year, but 1 or 2 would be nice. A youngster called Robert Tankiewicz looks as if he could be the next cab off the rank. Fingers crossed that the pathway being exposed by BBM encourages them to stay, like lawlor. Im expecting him to leave at some point, but after we get a season or two and a few million out of him. Better they stay and play. Biggish fish in a smallish pond. The grass isn't always greener (though I wish the goats and sheep would understand that ) . https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/new-player-spotted-cardiff-city-32427391
Team effort. Etien Velikonja I couldn't find him through Google with my spelling, but did with yours. Much closer than mine.
I wonder if BBM has been working on 'plan B' during the international break. Plenty of crosses swung in for Salech in the first 70 minutes, then 20 minutes of nutmeg from Davies. To be honest, I'd be happy with more of the same.
