As weird as this sounds I can see a scenario where Labour, Liberals and Tories collude in some way to reduce the impact of Reform at the next election. It might not be transparent but I can see it just might happen. Farage and his right wing racist nutters pose an existential thread to the way the UK are governed and how we are seen in the rest of the world. Look at the States now, run by a right wing populist idiot and supported by Farage, The States have become a pirayah country not trusted by what once was loyal allies.. This is where the UK is headed if Farge and his lunatic followers have any hands on power. I find it amazing ANYONE listening to this phoney and the bollocks he spews thinks he is the answer... Not saying the other parties are...but dear God, Not Farage
Going back to Thatchers government I was a Labour supporter, but saying that I knew everyone in her government most in the Labour government and most in the liberal government. I only recognise 4 in this labour government none in Reform and a handful in the Tories and the leader of the Lib Dem’s. What a pile of crap we have as politicians today.
Unfortunately. I read an article a few years back that said pretty much that. The leaders of yesteryear were also statesmen. Now they’re just idiots, incompetents and warmongers. Sometimes all three.
In a weird way this for me would be my preferred outcome. People working together for the good of the country would be a welcome change.
I do think the polarisation of politics developed by Trump in the US is here with the Poundland version in Farage. Frightening times. We need to see much more who is funding people like Trump and Farage so people understand their policies. I think the sensible people in the Tory party, Labour, Greens and Liberals need to work together to rid the country of this right wing racist extremism which is being used by very rich individuals with the aim of creating smaller government and smash public services and the nhs.
I don't like politicians of any hue. But what, specifically, is it in that Farage proposes that is dangerous, right wing or poses an existential threat to the UK?
The level of public service cuts like we’ve never seen before to pay for billionaire tax reductions is pretty significant I’d say.
They have promised to set up a DOGE for starters Read this https://ifs.org.uk/news/response-mornings-reform-uk-policy-announcements
Were I a betting person, and I'm not, I would invest a few bob on her being recalled to The Cabinet, probably before the next Election. In a Parliament almost full of nonentities, she is one of the few, colourful personalities. With the despicable Trump Clone apparently conning vast swathes of voters, Labour are going to need someone in the 'front line' to wave the flag and energise the troops. If by some freak chance Jeremy Corbyn gets his new left wing Party off the ground, thus taking votes from Labour it would be foolish to ignore her for the combativeness that she would bring. (Or she might just resign from politics and become a TV or Social Media Personality)
Well the state is spending too much money and genuinely does need reigning in. Something, somebody has to look at this. Over 100,000 extra civil servants have been hired since COVID. Nothing gets done better or quicker . I don't work in the public sector, though have done before and have noticed the big difference in attitude to getting things done between it and the private sector, where you can go bust if you don't shake a leg. The problem is that most services are provided be decent people, but they carry a huge buearocracy around with them. I have had to deal with some of these, and it is like walking through setting cement trying to get anything out of them.
Thanks for you intellectual response, I'll stick to debating with @Pure River Slut , at least he makes some valid points other than Farge is a ****, which not many people on here would actually disagree with. Only problem is unless the party in power gets a grip no matter who it is there is always a chance someone like Farage gets in. I honestly believe the majority of this country have little to no knowledge of how politics work. It's very easy for someone like Farage to convince them he can be the one to make things better. In my work place in a morning there are 40 members of staff and to here there conversation worries me how easily Farage could get in
He is running on the Trump play book. He is ultra right wing that will be the cause of division and disruption in the country. His anti europe stance has already cost the country billions of pounds. He wants to change the electoral system ( many agree, I don't) He doesn't believe in climate change...clearly goes against all science and proof. He wants to decriminalise certain drugs... again many might agree, I don't
