I think it’s the fans mentality given the past 80 years. Hopefully we can achieve more this season

Took this screen shot from the second part of Connor Bromley's chat with Alt Ending on You Tube. This is what he's worked out after 3 games and he thinks the table is roughly what you would expect in the Premier League. He did admit that some teams will move either up or down but I thought it was interesting enough to post

Whilst I think we can do better, I'd take 17th all day long. The gulf between the promoted teams and the established 17 is huge. I'm my opinion we've done fantastically well at closing that gap with the transfers, but it would be a mistake to underestimate how far behind the 3 promoted teams start.

Lol monty's harmless, I'm almost 100% certain he's just an auld lads fan who has lost his marbles a bit, bless him. Yet to see a post by him which doesn't make complete sense with that context.

Some people think he's a mag / WUM but he's spoken in great detail about fairly obscure matches he attended back in the 60s so I don't believe for one second he's not a genuine Lads fan.

Really interesting that having watched the chat. Be curious to see how it looks after 8 or 10 games.

i am not a mag first of all. this could be the best season in 60 years fantastic window, we might finish top 10 and win the F A cup, great players in there Brobbery looks exellent, great posts on here, there does that make sense. and i go back to the 1970's.

Its so competitive, but our squad seems too strong. Like many have said, Xhaka won't want a stain on his football legacy, he'll be fighting to keep us up. We've got some big game lads i think, in Reinildo, Alderete, Mukiele and Diarra.

As long as we stay up, that's a huge step. We need to remember that this group will only get better the more games they play together, too. December is going to be a big struggle hopefully doesn't effect moral too much. The best thing is we have a mentality to keep going right to the end from the Coventry header to the late winner vs Brentford.

In a way, this is what's wrong with the Premier League/football in general . . . . December when we play possibly the top two teams (Liverpool & 'City twice) and three lesser teams (Brighton, Leeds & Maggots), because we 'almost' know where teams will be and who will be the biggest threats.

It's not the competition that it should be when we know (near enough) where each team is going to be, so I'm hoping that Sunderland A.F.C. (and a couple of others, perhaps) can at least try to change the format :emoticon-0148-yes:

We’ve played City at New Year before. Nobody gave us a hope.

Agree. He is actually great value IMO.

Some stonking comments man, with regular themes coming or going. Mitrovitch coming or not coming, (he was clearly never ever in any frame!) was the defining issue this summer<laugh>!

The squad shouldn’t ‘aim’ for 17th say, would have an automatic mentality of losing a lot of games if that makes sense.

But imo if we finish 17th I’d be absolutely chuffed. Anything above is a bonus. Whether we finish 13th or 17th makes no difference to me because both would result in brilliant foundations set that would see us hopefully kick on towards mid table and hopefully in a few years into the top half. Very hopeful and confident we can stay up

True this. The experience and leadership are just where you need them.

When I was a youngun, still seventeen which is aeons ago, me and a few of my mates got a game in a Saturday team. It was struggling as they had lost a few players in a hurry. I was at the back, but all the other defenders, goalie and a couple of midfielders were tough lads in their twenties or older.

My mates, all keen and quick and decent too, just flew without pressure with the old lads keeping them right, and me at the back right. It was great to be part of, two promotions then a few of the lads left and I got knee knack,( but for me I was past my level anyway!)

I see us a bit like that.

I would take 17th but think we’ll finish higher. Plenty of dross in this league. Even poor teams have a few good players. They don’t all have a strong team spirit with good coaches in the background. Quite remarkable how together the group seem, and I think that is testament to both recruiting the right profile of players (no arseholes), selling the project in the right way so there are up for the fight, and the work that the group do to welcome the new boys in.

Home form is a great start but we do need to pick up points away. A win at Crystal Palace would be massive. If we can average just under a point a game away from home, then our home form should be enough to see us over 40 points.

Interesting reading the posts on this thread. Does bring the question of what can we actually achieve, what is our potential?

Is potential limited by the Financial rules? Which is pretty much what villa and the scum are saying? Or are the struggling due to bad forward planning?

I honestly believe we could challenge to be a "best of the rest" chasing the non champions league places and decent cup runs.

The way the club is setting up deals, so we sign players on 5 year deals, and sell low cost players for massive fees, means we're fine for years.

Im sure we are, there's clearly a long term plan, just curious what the potential actually is / what people think would be success
