Apparently Grimsby played against United using a player registered 1 minute past midnight ‘ Grimsby Town fielded an ineligible player in their shock Carabao Cup win over Manchester United. But the League Two club have escaped being thrown out of the competition after being found to have registered Clarke Oduor just one minute after the deadline for doing so. Grimsby could have been expelled – and Unitedreinstated – over the error or forced to replay the tie. But they were instead fined by the English Football League. Oduor, who joined the club on loan from Bradford City on the eve of last Wednesday’s second-round tie, came off the bench in the 73rd minute against United when Grimsby were leading 2-0. They then let that advantage slip and the game went to penalties, with Oduor taking Grimsby’s third spot kick in what was an epic shoot-out. His effort was saved by André Onana, as he became the first and only Grimsby player not to score.’
So, this weekend - instead of the boring, foregone conclusions of a PL programme, we get to watch England's knife-edge tussle with the mighty Andorra. We live in exciting times.
See Salah hit back at a fan account that was celebrating the upgrade of Diaz and Nunez to Wirtz and Isak. Fair play, both those were important players in a title winning team and don’t need to belittle others to celebrate the new. So far Diaz and Nunez have done more for the club than the 2 new players
Leoni? Highly rated and looks like physically will be up for the challenge but I imagine will be an other cup player this year with the odd sub to rest players when games are won.l
Good for him. He's a great footballer and an even better person. You can see how emotional he's been over Jota and how much his teammates mean to him. Social media brings out the worst in some people.
Just pointing out the possible connotations of taking on fan groups. I've no issue with Diaz and nunez while they were here in terms of work and effort. But fans will move on and usually decide tomorrow qill be better than yesterday. There's no way salah can say he wanted everyone to stay and 5 or 6 to come in when he himself said he talked to slot on these things.
That wasn’t he point he was making. You don’t need to belittle what was to appreciate what you now have is what was saying. There’s no need to compare, especially as the 2 now haven’t delivered yet.
You've completely missed the point. It's not about players staying or going or whether Salah wanting new signings meaning that someone has to go is hypocritical or whatever. It's about respect for players who contributed to a title win (and other trophies). There were lots of ways the Anfield edition could have framed the welcome without disrespecting 2 of our (former) own.
It's funny how Ngumoha doesn't count as "an Under 21 pick" now- but will be two years from now (assuming he stays). To be honest, I'm in favour of the two teenagers instead of Chiesa being in the squad- although shame not room for him too.
I'm pleased for the youngsters but I would have liked to see Chiesa in there for his experience and to be given game time in a competition where hopefully we're not going gung ho from the off like last time. Chiesa is unlikely to be starting many league games but could have been a starter in some of the CL games. If Slot wants to keep him which he has said he does, then give him some responsibility to keep his confidence and desire up.
Harsh. He had to put Leoni in but its had expected Ngumoha to be minded as he's not going to put him in bar one game. But there you go. He's just said you were 4th choice a day ago and now you are 6th choice. That's slot.
Id imagine Guehi not coming scuppered that. If we get guehi then he’s a 4th cb but HG option so Leoni can be left off and Chiesa included. Instead Leoni is needed so one of Chiesa or Ngumoha left out and prob the right long term choice. wonder if Guehi joins in Jan if things will change.
