I really can't wait to see the 2025 additions to Portsmyths. I wonder what we'll get this time?

For my bingo card I'm going for.

    1) Self congratulatory circle **** on how they were the noisiest fans to ever enter St Mary’s
    2) If we lose (and don't go up) how they prevented our promotion
    3) Some regurgitated nonsense about strike breaking
    4) Something something saved their own club

Remarkable isn't it. Bad enough when they spout their myths let alone our own fans regurgitating them.

Ian will be claiming that Southampton dockers crossed the picket lines over there next.

The last one is true in fairness and the only thing I'll ever give them credit for.

I'll add one though - "scum love the bubble as they're all scared to come to Fratton without it"

Ooh good shout! On those lines, I'll add some knock off stone island wearing **** referencing 657 even though they're in their late teens.

True. Don't hear much about that funnily enough.

Pretty sure they still owe us for the 2010 FA Cup tie too.

Put it like this. Most Saints fans consider Portsmouth to be underdogs. I don't feel we consider beating Portsmouth to be the achievement they hold the reverse to be.

The stereotype responses listed above are so true but even official media like Portsmouth News have produced some really unsavory articles about Southampton.

I think that we have never been so close in ability for a longwhile. On paper , it should be a home win i would be inclined to keep my powder dry because Portsmouth are always capable of producing shocks and are probably the best they have been since they were in the top flight.

There`s always the ubiquitous `we`re not part of UK/Britain/England/Hampshire` *, cos we`re on an island and we`re different blah blah.

    * delete depending on level of xenophobia.

That is an interesting one. I don't follow them closely enough, but I get the impression they are generally a solid team that works well as a unit. Managed incredibly well, particularly for their small budget. I agree that this team is probably better, but their team from the last time we met them in the Championship had better individual players.

This summer window was a bit of an edge of the knife moment imo. It looked like they might lose Murphy and there was no talk until the last few hours about bringing Chaplin in. He will make a huge difference to them this season, real quality and I'm surprised he's gone back at just 28. Figured it would be more of a retirement type move like Ritchie was supposed to be before he fell out with the manager. Add in that they managed to keep Murphy means they actually have a pretty strong attack now for this level. It could so easily have gone the other way though, they cold have lost Murphy and not got Chaplin and suddenly they'd have been incredibly reliant on Bishop and their other lesser known new signings.

They will be underdogs but that adds a huge amount of jeopardy for us and what it makes it so vital.

This is the biggest game of the season for me by an absolute mile. Losing it is unthinkable and would be the worst derby result for either team for a generation.

The idea it means less to us is a complete Portsmyth. Remember how much excitement there was on here after the recent cup draw and how little many people cared about the league games before it? Or the scenes around St Mary's when we took the lead late on in 2012?

You even say yourself that the first 4-1 game is the worst result you remember and sits in the back of your mind still over 20 years later! That shows itself how important it is.

Have we done the better supported thing yet, where they fiddle with ground % used vs population density ?

Hilarious as desperate people who can't count get all "scientificy" about self created stats. Always ends in "you're smelly anyway" as they lose track of their own arguments.

Reminds me of the classic "there's no glory hunters here, everyone supports Pompey"

Well why were you getting 4 figure averages during the 90s then mush.

Evidence from the island of Madagascar is that over many thousands of years isolated from the rest of the World, species evolve and mutate into weird and ugly creatures such as the lemur...

The same can also be said about the inhabitants of Portsea Island...

Good point - it reminds me of the first of only two times I`ve been in nottarF kraP. It was against Celtic in a friendly at the end of the 75/76 season, arranged by skates manager Ian StJohn as a fund raiser. Anyway, there were 6000 Celtic fans, but only 3000 of the blue few there to support their club. Celtic won 6-1 - I remember Kris Kamara playing, and the locals chanting `Jock Straps` at the Celtic fans - how witty! A bit ungrateful, since they were helping fund their survival.
