No one's saying we needed a ton of signings, but putting money into Giles and omur and possibly even Pandur at that point were necessary. Not if it drove the fire sale in the summer.
Just seemed so weird when at the time it was clear to Blind Freddie that three of that top four were going up. I also don't really buy the notion that "We were 6th that January then finished 7th, that was a failure" when it ignores the context of Norwich getting Josh Sargent back who scored a stack of goals. We improved in January but other teams improved more.
The funny thing is that if Acun wanted to flip us for a quick profit he could've spent the KLP money on a new training ground and top youth facility. With the fans coming back in droves, and the Turkish sponsors he brought with him, it increased turnover and would've allowed us to spend more on wages. As long as we stayed in the division he'd likely have been able to sell us for a £15/20m profit with little of his own investment.
I'm a broken record on my frustration at his lack of investment in infrastructure. But then spends millions on a pitch that doesn't improve things? Neither pitch investment nor adademy/training would have hamstrung us for FFP, he could have chucked his money into that, sold KLP and Greaves, done what he's done this summer and just brought in a bunch of freebies and loans, had us mid-table the following season and tried to offload us.
It doesn't make sense, which means that either Acun has been changing his ownership strategy as he's going along, or that the speculation of him trying to flip the club is false.
I don't think he's changed his strategy? He's always thought throwing money at **** signings is the way to get us promoted so that he can then sell us for a profit. Look at the likes of Pelkas, Sinik, Traore, Tetteh, and others way back in that first summer as a start.
Have a read of your post , it appeared to be a sarcastic suggestion that I obviously knew who they were and were somehow interested in them . Therefore my response was based on that . If it was not meant that way then a couple more lines explaining it would have been helpful . There are so many fractious almost pointless arguments on here it’s hard to tell what is a ‘normal’ question or point .
Yeah, almost as if your initial response to me pointing out Acun is in a similar industry and similarly could have appointed a football specific operator for the club began this whole thing. Feel free to have a read of your post and reflect on how you escalated a pretty simple response into half a dozen needless posts.
Wow! I’ve just explained what I felt you were saying and I too do not want to prolong any pointless unnecessary irrelevant posts . Stops here I hope for both of us .
It is however when you think we got 16 points from the last 13 games. That's relegation form nearly. It was an absolute bottle of a good position which I think was actually stymied by the Jan recruitment. Ended up with square pegs in round holes to end the season.
He was sacked because of that and the fact the football was dire (until Selles came along and trumped him)
I think as we've seen since and before that window, any time you bring in 6-7 new players there's an adjustment period and players won't just simply all hit the ground running. Carvalho was the exception not the rule. Zaroury, Sharp, Ohio, Omur all by and large struggled to settle into the pressure of a play off battle and Pandur wasn't given the chance because his position is so much more critical. I think ultimately it was Delap's injury that ruined our play off chances moreso than any player or managerial decision. If anything, the fact Rosenior was able to adjust on the run with some of those players was relatively impressive. After all, it's not as if that 'relegation form nearly' dropped us to 12th, everyone else limped to the finish too.. WBA's form would have been almost worse than that I would think? 16 points from our last 13, WBA got 20, which included winning on the last day. Southampton, for instance, also got 20 points from their last 13 games which isn't too crash hot for a side going for autos, and they still won the play offs. Leicester only 19!
I think Omur settled into the games, he was class that first 6 months despite the lack of direct goal contributions. Then was never the same player since, not that he had much of a chance.
Mad what you'll do to defend Liam Syd. The fact that other teams had a wobble makes it even more of a failure. Just turning two of those draws where we sat back instead of going for it would have had us in a play off spot, with a decent chance of winning them, we played well against the better sides that season.
