Gareth Barry IMO is the most over rated midfielder in the premiership!

Funny, cos Rafa was more successful than Queen Jenny is likely to be.

Not sure Barry is overrated. Most people think he is gash.

Didn't Alonso leave because of his fall out with Rafa after he wanted to sell him against his wishes and buy Barry. That summer Rafa failed to land Barry, Alonso proceeded to have one of his best ever seasons in a Liverpool shirt the following season, and then buggered off to Madrid paving the way for Aquilani to join instead of Barry. Not Benitez's best moment.

Wakey Wakey, already have mate! Third in league.

And we'll get through to the knock out stages, confident we can compete however the draw pans out. IMO We are the third pot team everyone will hope to avoid.

Maybe, but I think you're biggest threat will be yourselves. You still have that knack of self destructing occasionally which you will need to get rid of to win the CL. You'll be one of the competing teams though, if not this season then soon.

A decent squad player but hopefully/proberly will be replaced by a creative midfielder.

Interesting to see that city fans don't really rate Barry either. A "good squad player" would not make my england team.

Except a good squad player in Man City is completely different to any other club.

    Exactly...
    People mistake "overrated" for "crap"

    Overrated means "rated too highly"
No-one rates Barry too highly, because everyone in the public calls him crap...

Managers seem to rate him though.. and I don't think he's that bad.. he's just not special/ advanced in any area..
He isn't in the team to tackle, to create play, to take anyone on, or to score goals... he's literally a "get it and move it" kinda player. He almost just adds another midfield number, and is relatively experienced.

However, he needs good partners in the CM area otherwise his total lack of pace/mobility would give him no chance. Without De Jong he would probably be lost.

Barry gets in the England team cos he's consistent (albeit consistently average) and over the last few seasons we've had no other midfielders who can play that shielding role to allow Gerrard and Lampard to bugger off all the time in search of personal glory. With Hargo injured and Carrick inconsistent, Barry basically became the Heskey of the England midfield. Hopefully Wilshere and Rodwell will push on and keep him out for good.

If that doesn't work, we'll just get Terry to sleep with his missus. That'll definitely get rid of him <ok>

    I think the opposite
Barry is the most underrated midfielder in my opinion, consistently excellent all season and one of the first names on the team sheet for me

Barry is the definition of workmanlike. When the defence is tight and the strikers score he looks good, when any pressure is applied he looks like the technically inept plodder he really is.

    Total fifth wheel.

    Average at best.

Good to see our opinion means so much to you, even six months after the debate! <ok>

Always in the shadow of our opinions? ;)

Can you please clarify what season we're talking about here?

Sorry for the late reply, but yes he was, consistently he was excellent(saw every City game he played in last season and only really Bayern away he was poor) Hart, Kompany and Toure got slated at the start of the season, Silva went off the boil after Christmas, Balotelli missed a lot of games through getting injured or sent off, Aguero struggled away from home(only scored against you lot and Porto away)

Barry is like Carrick, not a Youtube or MOTD type player but take him out the team and you see what he brings, Silva said he voted for him as his player of the year, Clichy said he feels better seeing Barry's name in the starting line-up, Mancini, Capello, Sven, O'neil all picked him for the big games.

So out of all the players that Gazutd named would you rather lose Barry or any of them? Seriously doubt you would rather keep Barry over Hart, Kompany, Toure, Silva, Ballotelli and Aguero. Not saying he is a poor player i actualy think hes decent, not sure who is overating him either only ever seems to get abuse!

My point being your team would be no worse without and its position you could improve but at the same time hes still a decent player and its not the end of the world having him in the team.

I'd lose Barry but only because he is 31, last summer I thought decent squad player(as posted above) but NDJ, Yaya and Milner should start before him but now he should be one of the first names on the team sheet(well for Premiership games at least)

Thats fair enough, he is decent in my opinion anyway haters are always going to hate! For me there are already enough players in your team to dislike anyway no point adding Barry needlessly to the list :)
