Yep. A considerably better summer window than last year, slightly disappointed we never signed a top class LW but in Kudus, Palhinha, Simons and Kolo Muani, we’ve added experienced internationals. The latter two obviously are untested in English football so we need to hope they can hit the ground running but I think club’s definitely had one of their better windows in recent times - at least in terms of ambition, we’ll see how successful it is by the end of the season! - and I’d say we’ve had a better window than probably 85% of the league. 8/10 in terms of ambition and signings. Semenyo would’ve made it a 10.
6/10 max for me this window max probably a 5 nothing amazing the best of our signings are the minimum I expect in quality tbh
I think 8/10, we’ve signed 4 players who on paper, could come in straight away and improve our first XI. There’ll always be places we think we need more but being realistic, with our spending power and where we currently are in the pecking order, I think it’s been a very very good window to get 4 high reputation (and hopefully high calibre) players in.
I'd agree with this. Very, very concerned about the defence. FB especially. As for elsewhere, I still await a signing that really makes me sit up and pay attention, but tbh all of the four we've brought in are well within our scope as a club, which has kind of defined Levy in general. Eze, Rogers Guehi etc. represent a level of ambition we just don't show.
Having watched him since he joined Spurs I don't think he has the same skill set as Greaves or Lineker. To me those two would've been a defenders nightmare, Johnson doesn't affect games like that. He can have a really quiet game and still chip in with a goal or assist but I think he needs to have more input overall. For me a young fella with that speed should be all over the pitch, linking up, attacking, defending, being a general nuisance on the pitch... more often than not he is out on the wing waiting for the ball to come to him. My memories of Lineker was that he was always looking for the ball, making runs, dragging defenders out of position. I haven't seen enough of any of that from Johnson... yet!!
in terms of player quality, I agree. On the face of it, we’ve made some decent purchases, and as you say, we’ve shown ambition. My only fault is that we could and should have signed players earlier rather than taking so long. the CB situation for me, wasn’t that much of a necessity. We’ve got plenty that can play there, and we need to give Dragusin a go under Frank, and see what Takai is made of. the LW situation was a bit of a let down, but now is the time for Odobert and Tel to step up. They’ll have plenty of games, so no excuses now. They’re either going to develop as we hope, or it’s more N’garbage down our left flank. Let’s hope it’s not the latter. Muani is a good bit of business today. It gives us another much needed option and will keep Solanke and Richarlison on their toes (if either of them are ever fit enough to walk on them, that is!)
Too soon to give it marks out of 10. The new signings could be rotten or amazing, only time and performances will tell
I tuned into Sky Sports for the last 1/2 hr of deadline day, wtf no Harry leaning out of the window no dildo in a reporters ear and the icing on the cake Roman ****ing Kemp putting his two penneth in , the game is finished
..absolutely although it was funny watching the two poor presenters trying desperately hard to drum up some sort of late interest!
I wasn't suggesting he had the same skill set I was looking to try and find a role for someone with a natural scoring ability (very cool when a chance arises) which is a rare attribute, but contributes very very little other than that. In normal circumstances you would just demote him to the bench and try to sell him on but it's hard to ignore the most important skill in football (scoring goals) Hopefully Frank will find a way to turn him into a contributor during the rest of the game. I should have mentioned that I agree with your post completely.
Think it’s been an 8/10 window for me. Four very good first team players , Kudus and Xavi exciting players with flair and creativity, Muani seems a sensible signing if we can get some consistency out of him he could be great, on his day he’s very good. But for me our most important signing is Palinha, at last a specialist DM and destroyer in midfield a type we have missed since Wanyama. Gutted we couldn’t get Savinho who could have been a game changing signing and we have to hope Dragusin gets fit and sharp soon and Takai gets fit and lives up to the hype around him. FB is a bit of a worry we will have to turn to Davies and Gray at times which isn’t ideal. So this is our 25 man squad now , haven’t included Kulu and Maddison as they won’t be available this year ( Bissouma might still get his move to Turkey ) - GK - Vicario, Kinsky, Austin FB - Porro, Udogie, Spence, Davies ( Gray ) CB - Romero, VDV, Danso, Dragusin, Takai ( Davies ) M - Palinha, Bentancur, Gray, Bergvall AM - Xavi, Sarr ( Kudus ) WF - Kudus, Tel, Johnson, Odebert ( Muani ) CF - Solanke, Richarlison, Muani.
I just find it bizarre that we didn't bring Walker-Peters back on a free. We've basically got three fullbacks and one club-trained player. It's nonsensical to avoid Solanke's best man in that situation.
