He's a defender with only a year left on his contract though. I don't pay enough attention to their squad to know for sure but presumably they see the other areas as higher priorities and think they can get him on a free next year.
Taylor is an odd one. Looks good whenever he plays but rarely does. Not sure why nobody has given him a run.
WBA will have signed an entire back four in the last week or so: Alfie Gilchrist, Krystian Bielik, Chris Mepham, Charlie Taylor
It's hard to say as we've seen barely anything of him, but he's always looked pretty solid in his brief appearances for us. So yeah I also think it's a little odd how no manager has fancied him. We don't really lose out by selling/loaning him out because he never plays for us, however we will be making someone else stronger as I imagine he'd be a starter for most other teams in the league.
Odd is exactly the right word with Taylor. He's experienced but not past it, he's played loads of games in the Premier League, he's looked fine when he's played but nobody seems to want to pick him. So why did we sign him at all?
We seem to be sending players to clubs who could be in and around the playoffs. Which is a choice I suppose
Don’t mind loaning players to them, as they can’t play against us but can against every other team in the league which could benefit us. Selling someone like Taylor to WBA feels a good move for him, but as others have said he would be a good player in this division, even if he’s likely 3rd/4th choice for us
Rival Update:- Ipswich signing Luca Fletcher (Striker) from Man City Leicester in for Aaron Ramsey from Burnley and Jordan James from Rennes
As always, media outlets can twist things to sound more or less favourable dependent on the agenda. The Wrexham 'love-in' continues with comments like this on the BBC: "The Hollywood-owned Welsh club have already spent more money than any other side in the second tier this summer and are now expected to pay in the region of £6.5m for Sheaf." A little checking on Transfermarkt shows that yes, they have the highest net expenditure of €27.33m due to the fact that they haven't recouped a penny in sales. The highest spenders appear to be Ipswich so far with €55.25m, followed by us on €46.95m. We're currently listed as the best net value of €80.72m (the total opposite of Wrexham) ... perhaps we're just a selling club!?!
Charlton forums are saying that James Bree is heading there for a reunion with Nathan Jones (who will be signing Bree for the third time!)
Wrexham must be playing a bit of risky game considering they are spending a considerable amount of money for this level but without parachute payments and without bringing in money through sales.
Doesn't surprise me if that's true. Said last night or the night before that that seemed like a likely destination.
I did think about that as an option when we signed Jelert. Losing both him and Taylor, and with Welingtons injury makes us look a little light at full back again. Only have 3 fit ones I think?
