This is the thing that I can't stand, being an NUFC fan and seeing this EVERY year. It just doesn't make sense. What could be so fundamentally wrong that all our players get crippled ALL the time. It's heart-braking.

It's no so bad so far this season, but we're normally top of the injury table.

Aye but this year we've had a policy of taking a punt on injury prone players and have also played the same 11 wherever possible (something I agree with regardless of squad size). I think it was Bano who said Pardew should have managed the squad better but for me he has done the right thing. Points on the board are better than having a rocky start and having to search for your best team all season.

But there is no doubt that signing injury prone players and playing the same 11 have contributed to our current situation. I still think we might get away with the gambles if we can get to January relatively unscathed and sign a couple (without selling anyone except Smith and Perch)

You don't know he is being greedy so its just daft to say he is.

Can't really apply that to the central midfield issue though, Tiotes relatively injury free usually and the previously injured Gosling is suspended. Guthries forever injured so needs replacing really, but we started with 5 and now have 2 (Cabaye and Smith) due to Newcastle being Newcastle. There's changes that could be made to alleviate the risk, but you can't just change an entire squad, Bruces 11 signings proved that. Eventually Smith and Guthrie (if he can't manage more than 3 games) will be replaced, but you can't just drop everyone and start again.

I know what you mean but I think we have a small squad, and we have filled out our squad in the summer with injury prone players. In the summer we signed Santon, Marveaux, Ba, Cabaye, Obertan. Of those 5, 3 are very very injury prone. This effects every area of your team as a manager if the worst happens, because you not only lose them in their natural positions but also any roles they can cover. Sometimes as a manager you do have to juggle your squad a little if its small. Players have to cover positions, and then others have to cover their position. Personally I think the CM is as you suggest the least affected. Having said that, at a push when down to the bare bones we could have used Marveaux.

I think people are giving this story way to much credibility. It says nothing.

Simpson will be here until at least may, at which point he will still have a full year left on his contract.

There is nothing to report, but on a slow news day they will try to make something out of nothing. Ok, it's there job. We should just take it with a lot more salt

Ok so Danny isnt the best RB but he has improved and gives his all for the team. I'm sorry he doesnt want to sign a new contract but that's life.

Will be a bit upset if he goes but he's not one of our key players and is replaceable. To be honest I'd rather the other Danny signed a new contract.

He was regularly injured between December 2009/May 2010, making only limited appearances for Hoffenheim scoring only 5 goals in the process. Better research required Beatski. The lad is very very injury prone as noted. He's actually done better since leaving Germany but he hasn't played an awful lot of games to really test the strength of his knee. This year will be the first chance he has had to really test it out.

There is a reason we chose not to play him on astroturf pre season. We knew he had a dicky knee, hence him failing two medicals. He's been playing pro football for 7 years now and has made only 161 appearances. Works out about 23 games a season. Very low, even in the modern game.

Disagree here. I know Ba has his 'dodgy knee' but did you know he's never actually injured that knee. It's a result of a surgical error when he broke his leg (exactly the same injury as HBA), which affected his knee but subsequent surgery cleared that problem up (this is still a concern according to some doctors/physios but it is debatable). He barely missed a game at Hoffenheim or West Ham. Santon has had this slight knee problem but to say he is injury prone? He hasn't exactly been riddled with injuries has he? Marveaux had one bad groin injury last year, he actually didn't play in the second half of the season to make sure it healed properly, but based on the fact he has suffered a recurrence, I will give you that one. Don't think you can class the other two as injury prone though...

He was on strike WP, he wasn't injured.

Edit: Sorry I was wrong he was injured. But also notice that he played every game the season before and (half) season after before moving to West Ham.

I think Danny will be replaced in the starting XI by Santon long before the end of the season. He is however very good back-up. We need two full backs on each side that are capable of stepping in well to the PL. Simpson and Santon is a strong RB selection, so we need 2 x left backs (as we don't have any), keep Danny (but we won't) and we'll be sorted. Pointless selling him with no cover. Raylor is alright in small doses but not over the whole season.

If Danny goes then Clyne should come in as cover for Santon, and we can slowly ease Clyne in to develop him.

If we do sell Danny in summer we'll probably have Santon as first choice RB and Tavs as back up. Even though he's not ready to step in long term if Santon got injured. Probably a championship loan for a good chunk of next season is needed.
