This is correct. To an extent. And context is important in understanding why this happened. For example, Britain had a Naval presence in Brazil to help protect ports. The Portuguese Royal Family fled there during the Napoleonic Wars and the British military supported them. So it wasn't really an invasion. There are other similar examples. Many of the actual invasions occurred during the Napoleonic Wars or during the two World Wars to help liberate those countries from invaders. Any implication that all historic British military actions have been about plunder or subjugation is incorrect. Of course, the British Empire did exist, but even that is a more complex subject than it is currently fashionable to think.
