Look, this was always likely. I love Matty, but it's a World Cup year, and he clearly wants to go, so... I just hope not to be perpetually disappointed by the replacements...
Always likely being on the fringes of the Portugal squad ahead of a World Cup year. The last premier league quality player out the door. JWP out on loan again probably
Will have to wait to hear about add-ons and sell ons but we really shouldn't be accepting anything lower our initial asking price. He has ages left on his contract, if we have caved then other clubs will know we are all talk.
**** off. Got to say that I thought at the very least SR were good at getting excellent prices. £35m up to £40m is not an excellent price for Dibling it's an okay one. But fine, he was in the final 2 years of his contract and it's pure profit being academy so fine. That's okay. But just over £40m for Fernandes is absolutely miles away from being an excellent price. I couldn't give a **** if Fernandes wants the move. He has 4 years left on his contract. We have lost all our other PL quality players. Just say no, It's not that hard. £40m isn't crazy money that you can't turn down. We've already made £75m this window.
Have to say that based on how we've dropped dramatically from our asking price on both Dibling and Fernandes that we were clearly more desperate to sell than what we let on. Still decent fees overall though I think and was always extremely likely they'd both go
I disagree with Dibling, that was good money because of his contract situation. But as you say, that doesn't apply to Fernandes. £35m is awful, we got more than that for Tino after he was injured for a season! The one thing Sport Republic have done well is get good fees when selling, it seems they can't even do that anymore.
I don't think that's going to be nearly enough to appease the fans. At the end of the day he played in the 2nd division in Germany.
I thought he would probably leave, but thought it would be a bigger team that West Ham, who are a mess ATM.
Interesting if their poor form continues, Potter gets the push and Matty gets the uncertainty of a new manager I guess it will imply faith in Potter if they buy him though
Not sure about that. Seemed fairly relaxed about loaning Ramsdale rather than selling. Think we just followed the handbook for trying to get as big a fee as possible. Just got our bluff called twice. All emotions aside, £80-90m for two players is decent business.
No - I expect the players were more desperate to force themselves out than we’d like to believe. They only join us because they are sold a chance to move up. Relegation and playing in the championship doesn’t factor in I’m always skeptical about the reported fees especially when the reporting is always biased towards premier league clubs and even more so with the West Ham love in within the media. The only club with even less reliable reporting on such things would probably be Liverpool where they would probably report we paid them to take him and bore him up there on a palanquin fanning him with palm leaves
/ Matty was playing for Estoril and most people assumed he wouldn't be cracking the starting XI any time soon. Why don't we wait and give Jander a chance?
