    Yeah, I can't find any interest whatsoever in musical ****ery. If the point of a particular band is to be 'amazed' at how fast they're playing their instruments then you can rule me out of the queue right away. Music needs compositional talent first and foremost; you can learn the simplest of pieces of music for any instrument that sound more appealing than, say, a 10 minute sweep picked guitar arpeggio solo played at ridiculous speeds.

    That band Opeth definitely are a metal band though, but it's interesting that you'd be decieved - such is their wider spread of stylistic influence when compared to most other metal bands. For the most part they contrast death metal inspired 'growling' vocals with some folk and classic rock influenced singing while contrasting sweeping heavy riffs with softer, calm acoustic parts at about an equal ratio - sometimes makes for an interesting, split personality sort of listen.

    arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and all those harmony bands derived from them as well with all their dobadodo crap was a one in the 80's did a yazoo track but my brain has burnt them from my memory

    Actually just after hitting the reply the Opeth singer went into metal scream mode so I see where you are coming from. I don't mind that sort of variation although I have to say I thought the track would've been better without that bit. Even so it was a good song and i'd have no problen listening to more.

    Those musicians who think it is all about speed and volume should listen to Spirit of Eden. Perfect example that less can be more ...
