As Rooney was approaching him from the rear and left it is unlikely that McCarthy even knew where Rooney was until he was hit. Also McCarthy was barely moving and during the entire footage was moving steadily in one direction (straight ahead). Withe Rooney's momentum he could have avoided him completely with the slightest adjustment had he wanted to but he actually made straight for him. Serioiusly Vinni get yourself to specsavers if you can't see that!

You had a good time embarrassing yourself? Hmmm, strange. I wonder how you would feel if you actually made some valid points and had intentions of having a civilised debate. I'm guessing you would be over the moon, eh?

I can't believe this has gone on for this long, everyone knows it was intentional and he'll be lucky to escape a ban...

The warning was about starting endless threads just to have a go at Rooney, or trying to divert all existing threads. If someone's started a genuine thread about Rooney, he's welcome to post his opinion on it.

For my money, Rooney was very very lucky to stay on. He seems to be going backwards - after three or four seasons when he channeled his aggression into his game, he's started venting on fans, players and officials. He needs to sort that out before he gets himself sent off or worse...

thats the answer i was looking for! Doesnt prove im right or you're right, but shows my point is valid as Mcarthey CLEARLY looks up and behind when rooney is about 5 metres behind him. If u cant see that u really do need an eye test. So he knows exactly what rooneys trying to do and therefore wants to impede him.

Thats exactly what rooney tried to do u thick ****, he tried to avoid hitting him by adjusting his body, but he had gone straight in his path with that sole intention of stopping rooney. So the person who needs to b paying specsavers a visit is u my friend!

Luis you're starting to become more of a pain on these boards. How about stop criticising our top players and getting the gooners to help you. If you want to support Arsenal then clear off.

While Rooney in my opinion did foul McCarthy on purpose, what gives McCarthy the right to deliberately occupy his space in an attempt to block his movement?

There are not 2 sides to the argument. Blocking someone's space is worthy of a free kick to an opponent. Elbowing him round the head is bang out of order and SHOULD result in a red card. BUT it didn't and the ref has awarded a free kick, indicating that he saw the incident (even though he clearly didn't). With that being the case, Rooney CANNOT be banned and if he is, it will be United being made an example of yet again. Does Rooney DESERVE a ban? Absolutely. SHOULD he be banned? Under the current, farcical rules, NO. I couldn't possibly be much more impartial than that tbh.

PS. The MOTD coverage was a disgrace though, true. Trying to rewrite the rules.

the ref has done what he did because it looked COMPLETELY different from his angle. Think about it, all he would have seen was rooneys arm going in a straight line upwards, not bending and aiming his elbow towards someones face. He just gave a free kick coz it looked like rooney bundled mcarthey over. Why wouldnt motd show it from the front, surely the camera angles must exist, theres cameras everywhere at OT. Maybe then we can see properly if rooney has intent in his face, checks out his target etc.

So no, Rooney doesnt deserve a ban because the referee who is WAAAAY more qualfied to judge these kind of decisions than u lot didnt give him a red card.

If you had watched MOTD, you would realise that the ref wasn't even looking at the incident. Please, do not defend Rooney. It was an elbow and he deserved a red card. If the ref had been looking at the incident and had a poor angle, that still wouldn't mean that it should not be a red card, that would just make him poorly positioned to judge. I am qualified enough as a person with eyesight to know that!

I'm a United fan but this stuff about not being able to question a (clearly incorrect) decision is nonsense. Clattenburg didn't even see the incident and yet gave a free kick before waving his arma around in some hilarious gesture. Terrible refereeing and being qualified didn't stop him from being horribly wrong.

Agree that Wayne overreacted to a blatant foul. Nothing can excuse him but fouled he was.

That doesn't make the opinion correct and you still haven't yet explained how the WAAAAYYY more qualified ref than me gave a free kick without seeing the incident.
