Must be a uniquely french thing. marseille have chucked Gignac in the reserves for being too fat.

I wonder what his goal scoring record is like for the reserves then...

True that. By January HBA could have replaced Obertan though, we don't know

I'm suprised Pardew still picks Obertan ahead of HBA. It's clear for all to see that HBA is a far better player, why doesn't common sense prevail here?

Obertan gives our side balance that having two players cut inside wouldn't.
That and has HBA played RW before? I thought he was LW or in the hole...

Because Pardew refuses to play HBA on the wing

He doesnt see HBA as a winger, wants him as a number 10. I agree with that, just wish we had another RW as well though.

He's played RW, but only in 4-3-3, he would be required to track back a lot more in a 4-4-2.

Why not go 4-3-3? You have the personnel to do it. It also helps Cabaye, he spent a few seasons playing in that system at Lille.

Lack a 3rd central midfielder and wouldnt suit Gutierrez. We could still use it though and I think long term, it is Pardew's plan. Suggested we may play it at the weekend.

Why wouldn't it suit Jonas? The guy is a winger, play him at left wing in the front 3, or the Gervinho role that Arsenal use, where he can drift in, and become another CF.

He's just too defensive. He could learn to play the position, but he's much better playing in a flat 4 man midfield. As I say, he could eventually do well in that formation but I have a feeling he wouldnt be a starter. It would also leave our fairly average full backs more exposed.

On the other hand, it would suit players like Obertan, Cabaye, Maiga and possibly Ben Arfa more than our current set up.

He could work there, but people were talking about him in the middle 3

I think Maiga's being signed to play in a 4-3-3. The potential front three is very similar to Chelsea's current one.

Really disappointed with this signing, I'd rather sign no one. He looks ****, he's unproven, terrible attitude and his clearing off to the ACN for six games immediately after joining. :(
