I just listened to Adam and Jo, and they want Saints to get in a striker.
Who could we realistically get in on loan, or buy? Yes it would be great to sign someone like Sargent, but unless we offer silly money, Norwich won't sell.

 

And we’d need at least one out surely ? And it’s not going to be Downs or Stewart

 

I can't see us signing a striker. I actually don't think we need to.

 

When I went onto the Middlesbrough forum to read about their feelings about Azaz there was some comments about doing a straight swap for Archer

Yeah he’d score a hatful if he was played in the right way. I think a lot of people thought he’d be a key player for us this season, doesn’t look like it on what we’ve seen so far. Same as Armstrong he doesn’t seem to suit how Still is playing currently

 

These two answers give me hope that we will address the lack of creativity and not just with one signing:

Are you happy with the four strikers that you have got?
WS: Yeah, it's more a question of how we get the ball to them and how we create our chances, because for the moment we're crossing the ball a lot and getting the ball into the box, but it's not quite spot on yet, and we need to mix that up as well.

We need to be able to play through and have that thread passed that we're missing for the moment.

What do you want to sign this summer?
WS: I think we still need a couple of things. I think a number 10 has been a question since the start. But we also need a bit more creativity from the outside with one or a few wingers that can have one opportunity and stick it in the back of the net, which is what we're working towards.

Would Downs going out on loan be a benefit to him and us? I get the gist he is not ready for championship football. That would allow Saints to bring in a striker that we need, be it on loan or buy.

 

He's played 75 minutes of Championship football for us so far (and has something about him if you watch him properly). I think you might need to give him a bit more of a chance than that...

 

Not ready? He's raw but showing promise already. Not his fault his runs weren't being noticed by teammates.

 

Jo Tessum wasn't impressed by him and I felt Downs and Archer both looked anonymous. A loan for Downs would be a good decision, I think and then see what he is like in January.

 

Downs hasn’t had a chance yet, as Laces said 75 minutes isn’t a lot.
And remember Mane was not great for his first 10 games or so.

 

I watched Pelle’s first game (or maybe first home game). A turgid 0-0 with (I think) West Brom. He was truly abysmal. And the fans absolutely hated him

 

We're not loaning him out and rightly so. Besides, no team will want him for half a season.
