The match v Crystal palace looks like a sellout with over 30,000 tickets already sold. Should be a great atmosphere.
I'm on the IOW over Christmas and New Year. Now I come to think of it, I doubt whether I'll be touch with a TV or Radio. Crikey, better get something sorted.
I live on the Island and have guests for Christmas..they'll just have to fend for themselves. Priorities, priorities.
This is the first game I will be going to since Exeter boxing day two years ago now (I think!) Cant wait, got my Dad a ticket for Christmas too!
Stepping back in time to the 1950's are we? Nobody under 85 years old would ever dream of going to the IoW unless they have family there. If they have then they should be worried for a high proportion of corkheads are supporters of highly sensitive neighbours.
It will be a terrible atmospher, it always is for boxing day games. They ALWAYS sell out as people buy tickets as presents for others, which is also the most likely cause for the bad atmospheres.
Crikey you are a cheerful sod, this a match to recruit a few new converts, you have to have sympathy that they have already missed out on so much good!
In truth Godders, it's probably better than spending Christmas and New Year in Swaythling, as you'd probably agree. Besides, I've made a bit of a tradition in staying in a few different places over the years. I've stayed in the North-West Scottish Highlands, during two winter retreats, and drove home one night with the road covered in a 2 inch thickness of solid ice. I drove almost 37 miles from Inverness to Cannoch and Tomich and almost crapped myself at least half a dozen times, going up and down hils with almost zero grip [the Scottish routinely have snow/tyre chains]. I've sailed in the Solent in an Albacore racing dinghy in a Force 7 gale on Boxing Day, and nearly crapped myself then too, as there was so much power in the wind we couldn't heave-to to reef. BTW, the gale wasn't forecast. I've spent almost an entire Christmas/New Year on a NZ beach, and believe me, I could have walked it from end to end and not seen anybody, save my NZ wife. There have been quite a few other locations too. I thought the Isle of Wight was a change of pace as I've often sailed across and around in dinghies and keelboats during the sailing season, but I haven't spent proper days there in donkey's years. It's a lovely little island too - I thoroughly recommend it. I might take the VFR800FiY and do a bit of scratchy biking while I'm there, if it's not icey. I'm keen to see the old Blue Streak/Black Arrow rocketry test sights I've read about so much. If I can I'll take a laptop and find a connection to keep in touch. Otherwise, assume that I'm basking in a superb Saints win, or not too disappointed that we didn't do as well as we might have.
i always find boxing day atmospheres to be quite good myself - you always seem so cheerful and positive on here with your comments
This game will be my 1st in over 6 years. I am flying over to visit my family, and we are all going to the game, glad I called the other day about getting tickets for the game.
I'm going theother way to spend Christmas in Calgary but will be with Saints fans in spirit...dont smoke now but used to love boxing days at the Dell when it seemed that most of the men lit up a cheap cigar...loved it
I've still got family on the island and the rocket test sights are very interesting but unless the weather is clear and sunny, forget it. While I was there, sea mist rolled in and it became bloody freezing fast !! Have always enjoyed the boxing day fixtures and I thought that Exeter game from 2 years ago was great but don't get me started on the Charlton debacle last year
