Great night last night: first Premier League matches: big spenders Liverpool v Bournemouth: and then Virgin Media went into melt-down. Psychedelic images not seen since Ken Kesey set off in the Kool-Aid Acid Test Bus.

Had to revert to taking TV through an aerial - how retro is that? And no Sky, Netflix or Amazon Prime there……

Winston Churchill once said...."jaw, jaw is better than war, war"...............unless it's Trump and his buddy Putin talking.
Trump talked of his "fantastic relationship" with Putin....and described the meeting as "extremely productive".......Trump gave the meeting "10 out of 10" and said they were "pretty close to a deal" on Ukraine.

In the meanwhile Putin continues to grind away in Ukraine....losing thousands of troops a week to death and serious injury.....because Ukraine should still be part of Russia he claims.......and also in Moscow we have been reminded that Alaska should be still part of Russia as well.

What a total mockery this whole time has been.

PS......the longest bit of red carpet ever seen....for Putin to walk down and be clapped by his buddy Trump......yuck pass me the bowl.

Well, the definition of a diplomat is someone sent abroad to lie for his country. This is diplomacy.

However, Trump seems to see everything as transactional with no reference to principle or morals. That and some sort of willie waving competition.

Unfortunately, the rise of the worldwide Nazi far right and response to it of a drift to the 1970’s far left makes you wonder what the world will be like in 10 years’ time.

PS The Liverpool game was stopped last night while a spectator was ejected for shouting racial abuse at a Bournemouth player.

Today's Times reports that in recent weeks, unusually strong summer winds would have enabled wind-farms up north to generate large amounts of electricity. At the same time of course, summer temperatures mean there's less demand for heating with the bulk of demand being for industry.

Unfortunately, the national grid lacks the capacity to carry this down south, where a lot of the industrial and commercial demand lies, so the wind-farm operators have had to be paid to stand their wind-turbines down. Meanwhile, in the south, gas-fired power stations have been had to be paid to bring their capacity on-line to service southern demand.

During the last week, it was revealed that the majority of the new server-farms needed to service the exploding demand for artificial intelligence are expected to be built in South East England. Not only is this going to make electricity transmission problems worse, it's a golden opportunity to create well paid jobs in less well-off areas of the country missed.

    HS2 all over again?

I hope he was more than just ejected from the ground.

The problem here is that the one person ejected becomes the news story and dominates the evening and the match beyond all else....which then makes him the story and not the match.

Denmark's Postal Service is to stop delivering letters......they will pass on their letter deliveries to a private firm......this seems to be what will be happening in many countries worldwide soon.

PS.....My daughter on holiday with her husband... recently sent us a postcard from the Hebrides.......it took 9 days to arrive....it had a second class stamp on it.

This is similar to the time span that in past years (1980/90's) it took postcards to arrive from Greece when we regularly had holidays in their islands.

That's nothing new. The Post Office here stopped delivering letters years ago.

I’ve got a decent watch (bought duty free in Warsaw airport before they joined the EU) and one pair of silver cuff links.

Why then have I been sent this?

Ghislaine Maxwell...the convicted associate of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has told US officials that a much-discussed..."client list"...does not exist.

Maxwell who had been moved from her Florida prison to a low-security prison in Texas......(more like a holiday camp some say) is saying all the right words as far as Donald Trump is concerned......In a 300 page transcript Maxwell said that while she believed Trump and Epstein were friendly..."in social settings"...she did not think they were close friends......"I never saw the president in any type of massage setting"...she said alluding to the massage services that some Epstein victims have mentioned....."the president was never inappropriate with anyone"......"in the times I was with him...he was a gentleman in all respects"...she added.

PS........Wow Trump has never been mentioned often as a "gentleman at all times"......Ghislaine Maxwell is certainly saying all the right things...to get one day a total "pardon" from the president.

    What even are those things?

You missed something out on the Ghislaine interrogation - or was it a fireside chat - the person who conducted it was at one time Trump’s lawyer.

Surely totally above board.....although at times it's hard to keep up with Trump's friends/enemies........depends what side of the bed he gets out of......or whose bed it is I expect.

His latest mad-move is to stop US space agencies from studying the Earth. Their satellites are only to look outward.

This will stop the of inconvenient information on global warming, CO2 levels, deforestation, sea levels, ice cap erosion etc getting out.

Now I’m not the greenest of people but even I know it’s no use burying our heads in the sand.
