Me too. A mate couldn’t believe it when I told him the same last night. Some just expect us to turn up and batter Burnley. Won’t be the case. A point on the road and we’ve had a great start.
That's my thoughts too. We have a better squad and could go there and win to make it a magical start. That said, it will be a tough game and their home fans will make it hard. A point on the road in this league will always be a great one earned.
I’ve seen a lot of people just expecting us to turn up and turn them over no problem at all. Really tough fixture I feel, would be delighted to get out with a draw. Would represent a really solid start with Brentford (H) to follow.
Whilst I agree a point would be solid I certainly wouldn’t take it now. We can easily win there, accepting a point makes no sense. I’ll be satisfied if we come away with a point but ‘I’ll take a point now’ is surely for games like Spurs, Villa, Forest, not ****ing Burnley.
I just don’t believe the gulf between the 2 sides is as big as some are making out. A few reality checks could be in place tomorrow if we’re turned over
I certainly don’t think there’s a gulf, but I do think man for man we are a better side, I think we are better managed and I think we have more belief. I wouldn’t be taking a point, no way.
I’m with you on this. If we get a point fair enough and we move on but this is our easiest away game of the season on paper (also their easiest home game on paper). Great chance to win regardless of whether how big or small the gap is between the two teams. I wouldn’t be disappointed with a point but opportunity to be had here imo.
Exactly mate. We ain’t saying it’s a banker win, but it’s a game we need to think about winning. First target is Southamptons 11 points we’d be over half way there with less than 5% season gone.
I’d take a point in any premier league away game personally. Anything more is a huge bonus. A point away is a point gained for us and 2 points dropped for a rival who needs to be winning their home games.
Another belter RTB 1-1 for me, think it will be a cagey game, Burnley have an awful set of fixtures coming up and they won’t want to lose this. They were very good defensively last season and we struggled against their backline, we have more pace and power though so we should be ok. For all the ones travelling down, enjoy it and roar the lads on as always
Fid we struggle against their backline, or did we fluff our lines? We should have won at least 4 at the SOL, we missed 2 pens and a few other chances at their hovel. The struggle was on our side, we had no issues getting through them.
I honestly do think there's a gulf. There's not a single player I'd swap with them. I think I'd be more fearful of Burnley's championship side than their current one. The goalkeeper is worse and the replacement CB is much much worse. Walker is a defensive liability at best even if he is still relatively quick. We should have beat them twice last season when we were the weaker of the two sides and would have if we knew how to take penalties. I just fail to see why we should pretend they're world beaters just in case we put in a ****e performance.
I've seen the points about getting carried away after just the West Ham game (which tbf makes no difference as to whether we are going to stay up or not). But I do think over pre season and the West Ham game, we have shown that we enough quality to beat Burnley (we bettered them over both games last season), that doesnt mean we'd beat them comfortably at all, but we have enough to beat them in a one off game. It's not going to be easy, no games will be, but these are the type we have to aim for 3 points in imo, if we cant aim for 3 points in this away game, then we cant in any other and then you'd be asking a lot of our home form to get us to the points needed for survival. Point keeps us ticking over nicely, and takes a game away for Burnley that theyll have marked down as a win, but we've got some momentum at the moment and we have a chance to keep it going.
Prehab26 said: ↑ Probably take a point if it was offered now TBH. We can absolutely go there and win though. That's very positive for you, Prehab (I think) I'm surprised that you've seen any Sunderland fans saying that they "just expect us to turn up and batter Burnley", LD . . . . 'cos I haven't heard a single one that's said anything like that I'm hoping that we'll win, and I'll be very disappointed if we don't 'cos I believe that we're much better than them, and we'll see the confidence growing as our players get to know each other better
At this point in Burnley’s rebuild I want a win but no game will be easy and they will be well drilled and switching play as they do. I’d suggest West Ham finish above Burnley. Our full backs and wingers need a good game and we need some carriers from midfield to break through their lines. I have a temptation to play Le Fee for that reason but doubt we’ll change it .
RLB made the same point in his presser Burnley will be tough defensively etc like last season and followed it up with, but we’re different team it’ll be a different story
