I imagine Smyth hasn’t signed because there are so many players ahead of him in the pecking order. Dembele, Poku, Chair, Kolli, Bennie, Sutton, Vale…and still rumours that we want Saito back or perhaps another wide player. Frey gives us the option not to play Celar if Burrell and Kone aren’t available.
He was signed cheap when we were scrabbling around for players- it was suggested at the time he took a pay cut to come to us. Probably fancies his chances of doing better elsewhere with a half decent season here or proving he’s worth more to us. Not that he’s a spectacular player by any means but it must grate a bit when you know your teammate is on multiple times what you are and is contributing **** all.
