Good Player. Gets a goal / assist every other game. Could be a ploy to get the Russian club to make a decision?
I’ve never been particularly impressed in the admittedly few times I’ve seen Azaz play. he has decent stats and is a good player, but nothing special for me. I wouldn’t be particularly concerned if any of our promotion rivals bought him. And it seems like a lot for someone I don’t see as being able to step up to the PL.
Just looking at the contract situation for Azaz and he is contracted until the summer of 2028. I don’t think £12 million will be enough if he’s that good, with 3 years on his contract to run.
Adam Armstrong 35 GA the season we finished 4th, also very average. BBD 25 GA for the team that finished 8th, worse than average. Have you watched Azaz play? I have and doesn’t strike me as anything more than a Champ level player. Fine if we want to get as a loan, but pointless as a permanent signing
Meant in the “absolutely no chance he is good enough in the PL” category. If we are spending that sort of money on a player we have to be thinking/hoping he can do a job if we go up as well. Azaz isn’t that player.
Oh, I see what you mean. I’m not sure the market gets you those sort of players at this price point anymore, mind you…
If he helps us get promoted then, we could sell him back to a Champ team for 10-12m. He’s still only 24.
How many champ teams spend that on a player? To put some lovely stats and context behind a £12m fee, Leeds spent that on one player in the 2 years they were in the Champ, and that was Piroe. We didn’t spend that the year we were down last time. I get prices change etc but seems a big gamble and investment on a player who hasn’t shown anything at a higher level and, with our current squad, isn’t a real needle mover. Not denying he could do a job for us this year but that sort of money shouldn’t be spent on someone like him. I may be wrong, but from what I’ve seen he isn’t PL ability. Rather sign a loanee to fill the space (like a Rothwell) than spend that sort of fee
On holiday so catching up. Romeu would make a ton of sense. Standards, can play in the Charles and Downes role, leadership, legend. And would allow me to keep my username for a little longer...
Ahhh Romeu.. now that’s a signing we are in absolute desperate need of! Top class leader who knows the club and standards of what it takes to be at the highest level
How many Champ teams have already sold 50m worth, plus have two players rated over 40m, and several more worth 15m+? We're not really a Champ team (yet). We're a yo-yo team, which means our finances are far healthier than the rest of the division. Last time we spent 10m on a player that had never played above u21 level (Shea Charles). By the way I'm not arguing your assessment of Azaz. You've seen more of him than me.
Arsenal poaching Eze from under the noses of Spurs. That is hilarious and a cracking signing for them.
Yeah, was just referring to your post that “we could just sell him to a Champ team if we go up”. It’s very unlikely that would happen. If we buy a player for that sort of fee then unless a big shift happens in our transfer policy, he’s going to be someone we are relying on in the PL. As you said, we aren’t a Champ team currently and a yo-yo team, so all permanent signings we make this window should be with an eye on an immediate return, and Azaz isn’t that player in my view
