I don’t mean this to come across as disrespectful, I hope most of you know me well enough to know that I’m not on the wind up and enjoy mixing with you guys - but you’re not the first team to have a player want to move to a bigger club, make a fuss and throw toys out the pram. It’s **** especially when are trying to grow and get somewhere, but in hindsight a lot of the time it’s a case of move the player along, invest the money and buy players that want to be there. Newcastle don’t win by putting their foot down and making him play in the reserves for 6 months. As you say Liverpool will be disappointed if don’t get him but will move on and still feel can win the title anyway. But what it does to morale at Newcastle could go one or two ways, it also flags as a warning sign to future players that if you do want to move from Newcastle after 2-3 years, they’re going to make it nearly impossible for you and that may put off players like Ekitike, Sesko etc because, Newcastle isn’t a final destination club. Liverpool had same issues, TAA going to Madrid, Owen doing same, Alonso, Torres, countinho, Suarez. The list is endless, eventually you take the money and reinvest because no player is bigger than the club. No one on the outside knows the truth. Isak gone about it badly no doubt advised by stupid people with self interest. Are Newcastle totally blameless? If they made promises then probably not. The truth like most things is probably somewhere in the middle. End of the day whether Isak is there or not 50k geordies will be cheering on Newcastle for 37 more matches this season and many more in seasons to come and isn’t that the most important thing when it comes to football?

I'm with Biscan on this; trying to act big is all this is - an act. We're not big, we're in the second tier of clubs and the top tier will always appeal to players, you have to accept it and just crack on with the money. I will say again it has been a bit of a ****show in the scouting department, we don't have the right targets, the right approach, the speed to move, and aren't enticing players. How on earth we can't get Sesko, when he ends up at the Amorim ****show, Europe-less, on the bench and wearing the hallowed number 30 is incredibly poor. All you get is journalists saying Strand Larsen is of interest (literally just bought for £23m, we're being quoted double) from an increasingly small number of targets. It's mind-blowing that Newcastle win a cup, qualify for the CL and start the season with zero strikers.
No chance was ever going do bid that though. Why would they? Liverpool have their valuation and bid it. It was rejected, they’ll come back with a higher bid but we’re obviously told by Newcastle or via whoever that replacement must be found first. Same way you guys would have Wissa already if you bid higher but you didn’t because every club bids under to hope to negotiate the price down. You did the same with Sesko. Did the same with Ekitike. Heck don’t tell me when you buy a house you just put down the asking price on first bid and don’t try and under do it slightly to see if any movement? It’s why people put their house 10/20k above value knowing that people will make offers 20/30k under and hope to meet in middle.
Loads of players who aren’t in isaks league have gone for £100m +. The scousers can pay what we want or shut their mouths.

The story at this end is that Liverpool spoke to NUFC a couple of weeks or so before the bid sounding out NUFC as to whether we would be likely to accept an offer of about £120M. To be told no. Then subsequently Liverpool put in an official bid of £110M. That was supposedly why NUFC were so annoyed with Liverpool as well as the tapping up and unsettling of the player. Shows the offer was just for show and that Liverpool had no real intention of negotiating but we’re quite happy to continue with the tapping up and the unsettling approach. Combined with the absence of any further offer. No, most Clubs don’t approach transfers in this manner.
just back from a 21 hour afte being stuck behind a slow moving double lane convoy for 50 miles in Scotland so Im a bit short of patience at this time. Newcastle need to issue a statement along the lines of: a) Isak is not for sale is NUFC stance b) If Isak wants a change then he is free to put in a transfer request c) If and when that request is received NUFC will honour it and he will be placed on the transfer list d) At that point until bid that is deemed acceptable to NUFC is received, NUFC remind Isak that he is under contract and until such a time as a bid is accepted by the club, he is to fulfil his contractual obligations. Thats is, that's all that needs to be said.
And I think Liverpool will - they were probably ‘with respect’ ( I know I know) waiting for Newcatle to sign a replacement to then do it as has been reported but then Newcastle struggled so bad to get one and time running out that imagine will see bid come in shortly - probably on the back of this statement and it wouldn’t surprise me if intermediaries between lfc and Isak are talking and knew this statement was coming etc.
