A bunch of hypothetical prices included in that but still even with the players we’ve actually sold already and including the permanent transfer of Rambo we have made £61 million so far so already beat your £50mill prediction Onuachu - £6mill Bednarek - £6mill Sulemana - £18mill Amo-Ameyaw - £7mill Ramsdale - £4mill + £20mill (if signs permanently) = £61million Even if we sell those other players I’ve mentioned for combined £10million, my point is £71 million + £100million parachute payments = more than enough money to not sell Tyler & Matty imo Edozie will 100% go for £8mill+ alone so I think with the excess we could easily raise an extra £20 mill
If we signed a striker who had played senior football exclusively in L1 and L2 and scored 6 goals, I presume that means you'd change your SR OUT avatar then?
Not really a fair comparison, to be honest; my judgement on Ballard is based what I've seen of him in our academy, not based on his loan moves.
But academy football is totally different to men's football. A more accurate judgement should be made from his loan spells.
It is not the age of the little goal poacher. Now you have to be big and skilful and fast. Ballard will get the chance to work his way back up, but lower leagues will probably be his level.
Indeed it is; but like I said further up, he's had 2 very poor loan spells last season, both with mitigating circumstances. His loan at Reading was excellent before his injury, and that injury has obviously halted his development, but his choice of loans last season were poor, not helped by those mitigating circumstances mentioned further up the thread.
It does beg the question of why the club has invested so much time and effort into him then if they thought that he was never going to make it.
Think that’s quite unrealistic. You can’t expect an 18 year old to just swan into a new team and start stamping his authority, demanding the ball and whatnot. Academy kids can be sheepish even at their own club, let alone at another with a whole new dressing room to win over.
Can’t ? The price for El Khannouss seems like it would be lower. Not sure how important that is in this case
And, right now, I would say he's a better player than Dibling. Personally, I don't think either of them are anywhere near Eze's class. But Palace will be limited with who they can attract, and so will need to recruit as well as they possibly can. We know first hand how difficult it is to replace attacking quality - they need it to be like when we signed Mane/Tadic to replace Lallana/Jay, rather than when we signed Redmond/Elyonoussi to replace Mane/Tadic.
It’s a very tough ask to replace for a similar level of class for much less money. Otherwise you’d think the buying club would just go in and get that player instead. I know it’s not always that simple. There will always be an element of risk involved.
People do make it. We had a spell where we were picking up the smaller players rejected by other clubs as sometimes gems appear like that. But I don’t think it is a very secure strategy.
I see the negatives and the positives. Say you are team that relies on 5 loanees to get promoted and at the end of the season they all go back to their parent clubs. You are then starting the new season with players who then to get acquainted
Agreed. But the key point there is that you've got promoted. The loanees have therefore done their job. And besides, some of them might then be open to staying with us. What's the alternative? Stick with the likes of Aribo, Smallbone and Bree? Well guess what, we'd also need to replace them next season too if we go up. Or instead we could permanently sign some Championship level players. That would money well spent (not), if we're just having to replace them all 12 months later. We won't be permanently signing PL-ready made players this summer.
