The guy who was arrested (I'd call him certain things personally but maybe we are irresponsible doing so) on Friday has been conditionally bailed with the provison that he is banned from all football grounds in the UK. This then gives lfc the ability to remove him formally and give his spot to someone far more deserving i hope.
They were also trash at anfield and we easily beat them 2-0 The 3-3 was not very good for us. Their first was again a wide open back 2 with no real challenge backing off isak who hammered an unstoppable shot Their second was tripe defending by konate who let isak walk past him to get onside and then play it to Gordon. Zero real support and a bad shape. Of course gomez was rb and again he usually over runs a block so he never picked up Gordon either. Then kelleher let's and easy ball over his head and schaar did well to get it back in. Honestly its going to be down to central cover. (As in 6 stand in your ****ing position and dont wander off) Bournemouth left 3 up for the counter. You cannot leave it 3 v 3 if they are doing things like that. There should be platy of space to cut them open
Dermot gallagher gets it wrong on sky talking about var. The correct use of var should be: 1. Is there a clear and obvious error? Yes there was the ref missed an obvious handball. 2. Was it a red? Subjective call. Not the var's job to guess what the ref would do. Ask ref to review issue and decide himself if the position is a red card. Why is gallagher wrong. He says he could give a yellow. The ref cannot go do that on var. If the issue is not a red then we play on from where ever the game was stopped for the review. The ref can only give a red and a free or nothing in that position. The pace Ekitike has suggested to me thet might well be a goal.scoring opportunity but the first touch sets it up. Last year I think we had a red given v arsenal on half way and not given when we had an entirely similar situation on half way. That's at best subjective reviews and the only person who should me making subjective views is the ref himself and then explain himself to the stadium and world. As it stands Mr Taylor missed a clear swipe at the ball and Mr Oliver missed it then made up an excuse to cover himself. Complete farce.
Yep, classic bullshit on day 1. There will be many, many more. The reason he does it is pure panic because he knows if he doesn't Ekitike is going straight through. Blatant red that the ref would have seen if sent to review.
Im just looking again at that again on the sky feed. The other Bournemouth defender is 5 yard behind at least and the ball is on Ekitike's good side and the handball deflects thr ball pit of the control of Ekitike. Its almost certain to me that Ekitike can get in one on one there. I dont even see the Bournemouth lad recovering as he stumbled and swiped. For me its as clear a sending off as any awarded last year. Just looking at the other defender, I dont think he can get near it
General comment - The pitch side monitor is there for when the VAR doesn't want to make the decision or be accused of re-refereeing. Throw it back to the onfield ref. if you're not up for doing the job Clear VAR howlers are more bemusing because there's more than one person in the room looking at the monitors. This should counter any bias. Obviously it's not. Regarding the handball, the explanation was deflection from thigh to elbow but why stop the review there. It must surely be looked at in real time before going to slow motion. It couldn't possibly have been missed.
Disagree on your first point as so many of the judgements are subjective and i would rather the the actual ref made the decision with the help of seeing it again - if for no other reason it should be more consistent with how the match has been reffed . Just wish more had the balls to say "nah i was right first time"
Remember how confused we both were the other day? This looks like round 2. My first point was that the referee should be given the chance to look at the incident again if VAR doesn't want to make a decision.
I thought VAR could intervene on yellow/reds now? But you're right, VAR doesn't have to say it's a clear and obvious error, it just should have asked him to go to the screen, review whether it was deliberate handball, then ask him to consider the DOGSO (which was practically on the same spot that Gravy was sent off for against Palace in May).
Everton starting as they mean to go on under Moyes. No shots either off or on target, les than 40% possession. They’re only playing a promoted team.
A lot of managers dont seem to be too ready for this season It's quite odd given they all had a good summer off and a full preseason. If Sunderland and Leeds can get a head of steam up early and gather up to 10 points in the first 5 or 6 games its going to go a long way to keeping them in the race later. 10 wins possibly keeps sides up now. They are 10% of the way there without playing any of the other bottom teams!
ah see i read that as saying Var shouldn't shovel the decision back to ref I loath Var period and having seen it in action i'm if anything even more of that view
Var is video assistant ref. Their job should be to advise a ref on an error and advise a ref to look at the subjective again with thr benefit of video. They are not there for a ref to tap his ear piece and abdicate responsibility. On simple offside it should be virtually like the watch for goal line stuff. Instant. Everything else should be a simple statement by the ref of the context of what was seen and the var seeing if it matches or has something to review and provide to the ref. They should have most of this on a screen on their arm. They dont need a big screen to see. Should be able to view a subjective issue and then inform everyone live what they think and make the call.
This part is what would really clear a lot of **** up regarding var. Just ask the man. As an example: ‘did you know it hit his arm?’ ‘Yeah I saw it’ ok then you obviously didn’t think it was handball - move on. ‘No i didn’t’ ok, go and have a look and see what you think
Problem is refs seem to make something up rather than admit they saw nothing. If Taylor said. Ball bounced up to his hand and var properly reviewed and said actually afterwards he blatantly batted the ball away. Go have look the. Taylor can go make hai mind up and debate the odds of what the right final outcome is.
the culture is shocking. Rather than collective learning, it’s collective cover ups. It stains the premier league imo
