I disagree about loan signings. I think should be for situations where you have to suddenly fill a position because someone has become injured. The problem with loanees is that you have to fill that position or buy them at the end of the loan contract. I still feel burnt by the Alderweld situation
I consider that Spam was, and is, Spiced Pork and Ham. A Google search confirms my belief. The term 'Spam' to refer to junk, especially electronic-based junk, comes from the Monty Python sketch with Vikings in a cafe, singing about Spam, as the main, not to say only, ingredient in the dishes available. Here endeth this morning's first lesson
They might leave holes when they leave but for a promotion campaign they are very important. They allow you to sign players who may not want to join a Champ club permanently but are open to a loan move to play more regularly. Ipswich have signed two players on loan this season with a “if we get promoted deal turns permanent” clause in them, similar to what we did with THB. We could have that agreed with a player if we wish. There will be a fair few players who are too good for the Champ but not really getting a look in across the PL who we could potentially get, especially with parachute payments where we can afford their wages for a year. If we were to sign them permanently we would have to get them to take a pay cut and they might not be open to joining a champ team anyway.
But we replaced Toby with Virgil? If we hadn't recruited Toby on loan - a player who, quite frankly, was far too good for us - would we have still finished as high as 7th that season and qualified for the EL? I doubt it. And who knows, maybe a lower finish could have meant not being able to sign the likes of Virgil and Romeu the following season. The loan system is excellent and should be utilised to great effect. Having access to players who who are out of reach on a permanent basis, but willing to join for a season, can be enormously beneficial - if you duly take advantage of the season that you have them.
Loans are definitely the way forward for a club in our position. Save the money for when we are in the PL and can attract a higher calibre of player whilst being able to bring in better players for the here and now too.
We'll come to regret this, in my opinion. I had heard he had been offered a new contract, but that came with a loan and he doesn't want another loan so I expect if he's not being given a chance here, he'd rather make a home elsewhere. Shame.
14 days left in the transfer window, and so much to do. At the start of the summer we needed a big overhaul, which let’s be honest, hasn’t really happened. The performances so far have been pretty flat imho, and we need some refresh faces on the first team squad. At the moment we have 29 senior players on the first team squad. Players I think will be sold or loaned:- 1. ABK 2. Aribo 3. Smallbone 4. Fernandes 5. Edozie 6. Matsuki 7. Dibling 8. BBD and Possibly Sugawarra and Taylor This would leave room for 5/6 buys and loans to leave Still with the numbers that he would prefer to work with. Also like all fans I’d love Fernandes to stay but just can’t see it happening sadly.
