You're in a very small minority in holding that position. How so? The spotlight has undoubtedly fallen on us as a result of the recent move by police and politicians. But I don't see how that adds legitimacy to your view that IRA/rebel songs are OK at the fitba. I've provided direct quotes from those responsible for making the 'allegations'. The mechanisms for achieving their result were that these chants were heard, were reported, they're against UEFA rules ergo - a fine . Whether that's a harsh punishment for a 'first' offence is debatable, nonetheless our 'guilt' is not contested.
It is clear enough to the club and that is good enough for me. Your argument that these songs are suitable for football grounds is now shown to be as untenable as we all knew all along.
Can't help thinking Superhoops or Harry could clarify this topic for all of us, and we could then move on.
Hasn't anyone noticed that the more you tell a rebellious sort not to do something.....the more they do it Best not to highlight it
I have a few problems with the situation that we are in. First neither the referee nor the UEFA observer heard any illicit singing. The Celtic club watch and listen very carefully on match days to hear if there is any illicit singing or chanting. After at least one previous match Celtic supporters complained on forums like these and to the Celtic board. This did not happen on this occasion. For the singing to be inflammatory and hence need to be acted on it would need to annoy people. It certainly did not annoy Rennes fans for one of two reasons a) they did not hear anything. b) they did not understand what was been song and so could not be annoyed. No Celtic fan complained and so we come down to it it was only the members of the police force who were annoyed. It is possible to accept that if there was a level of consistency. At almost every away game in the SPL Celtic fans and players have to listen to nasty, sectarian chanting and singing but the police do nothing. Rangers were reported for illicit singing on at least 3 occasions by UEFA Delegate and by FAIR. On each occasion our partial police force sent an official letter to UEFA, advising them that they were only harmless, funny ditties. Rangers got away time and time again with warnings. I think it was last season Rangers played a European Champions League game in Romania, of course the partial police were there on Rangers behalf and explained the rioting and damage as nothing more than a childish prank. The board must take steps immediately and get rid of the very small minority that turn up every day at Celtic Park with just the one aim and that is to cause trouble. Of course, that will mean that Celtic will have to use more stewards, but sure the good name of Celtic has to be sacred and sometimes we have to face problems head on. Celtic must take over the control of Celtic Park themselves, solely by Celtic security people, get rid of the bias police.
Few questions Superhoops. How would you define 'Celtic' security people and what powers should these people be allowed? Do you think the times Rangers fans sang the songs the opposing fans had a clue what was being said? Why do a small minority of fans turn up everyday when there is only a game on about once a week? I believe you mean 'impartial' police rather than 'partial' or were the police double amputees? Are you this stupid in real life and do you hold down a job? If so, how?
No, I am in a huge majority and I don't need any evidence to prove it. If you hadn't guessed, that is me being flippant The custodians of the club have a very vague proclamation from Uefa that some chants are deemed illicit. They have not sought clarification because they can now try and rid my club of any political vestiges at all. A canny, if not predicable move by the club. I never said it to lend legitimacy to my argument. My argument is perfectly legitimate with, or without that statement. If politics should be kept away from football, then it is highly ironic for the Feds to take such a politically driven step to try and eradicate it. No you have not, you have cited Campbell Corrigan. He did not make these allegations. Campbell Corrigan is an idiot. This is a fact.
It is not clear enough to the club. They have made a statement saying that they do not know, therefore it is impossible for it to be clear. My argument remains wholly legitimate. If, as you say it is clear to the club then we can assume that the praise Peter Lawwell has today heaped on the Celtic support for actions since the Rennes game means that the conduct since the Rennes game is acceptable? In that case it is easy to narrow down the offending "illicit" chants. I know of at least 5 rebel songs that have been sung since.....they must be ok then?
Why are you so against the club trying to rid itself of the political and terrorist baggage? Surely the whole ethos of your club is to welcome all? This ****e will alienate plenty.
His use of the word is entirely appropriate and used in the correct context. I am sure you are man enough to apologise
All are welcome as long as they are willing to put up with songs glorifying terrorism and the group responsible for murders of British civilians you mean.
Any song glorifying the IRA or even based on IRA stories are offensive to British people, and unfortunately for you Scotland is in fact in Britain, its not as if Scottish people didn't serve in NI.
UEFA didn't tell Celtic at the legal stage what the specific chants were. Like I said, a bit arse about face. However, wouldn't Celtic have seen a copy of the UEFA delegates report? Wouldn't there have been a debrief with the match commander? And let's face it, we all know what chants are unwelcome at Celtic Park.
Celtic have accepted fine and won't appeal. So it's safe to assume that Celtic are happy with the findings and accept that teh minority of fans behaviour is not acceptable!
