You can only have play what is put in front of you. We had some really bright spells and didn’t lose after our better players got subbed off. The pre match talk was Ipswich are favourites, so either we played well or we got very lucky, and I didn’t see it as luck.
My take from the game is: A good away point at a tough team to play against Jay Robinson was excellent Saints need to learn to handle the press Some of the defending was awful There are too many mistakes We need to play at a higher tempo Ryan Manning needs to start ahead of Wellington. We're still unbeaten which is always good
Been thinking about the bench. If Downs & Ross hadn't gone out on their dinner date, we may have even won tis game.
Good result - we rode our luck a little bit and thought our defence looked really shaky at times but overall to come away with a point from one of main rivals was a big positive. Standout for me was Fernandes, if we can hold onto him I think it makes us one of the promotion favourites, clearly a step up from this level. If we have to lose one of our better players please let it be the Jack Grealish wannabe, sorry just think there's an attitude problem there. Also can we get a decent striker in because at the moment we looked a bit powder puff up front?
Away point against one of the trickier sides in the league will do me for today - enjoy the rest of your Sunday boys and girls.
I see we face the league leaders next week. My memories of home games against Stoke is that we play poorly. 3 points against an in form team would be massive.
Good point all in all. Can't be unhappy with that. Right result too I think, we were better first half while they were better second. Think overall that's the best we've played this season which is promising. Thought Downes and Stephens were excellent and delighted Robinson got his goal as thought he looked our most dangerous player. Bit worrying how average we looked in the final third once him and Matty went off. Especially as we don't look strong enough defensively to counteract that. Desperately need one of Stewart and Downs in the side to give us a focal point. Obviously very early days but Quarshie looks extremely raw and not yet ready imo. Looks a bit of a liability if I'm being honest. THB looked very erratic first half too.
4 points from 2 league games both scrappy in parts, and an even scrappier game and win in the energy drink cup-reasonable start. A few bits that have hit me though… -the standard of refereeing and linesmen has been appalling, I worry about the long term conveyor belt of refs coming through is this is the second best lot that we have in theory. -we are still 2/3 quality players short and need to get rid of as many of the bench warmers as possible as the minimum expectation -we are worryingly short up front, using AA is a waste of a position, his pressure was much better today but we were toothless.
I thought he looked poor too, a kinda going through the motions not entirely interested performance. Also hopefully Kuryu Matsuki will improve because he looked lost out there today.
Was expecting Dibling to make a statement and maybe score the winner, I was disappointed. Matsuki had very little impact too
I think that was Still’s thoughts as he chucked him on. He was wrong though. Maybe I am being harsh, but Tyler didn’t look all that interested and that headband now makes me think that he is believing he is above us.
This is some run that DTLW is putting together. In my true bedwetting outlook, I thought we were going to get a tanking. So I'm very happy with this result and a reasonable performance to boot (not from Welington though). I really want Still to be successful, not just for Saints' sake but because being relatively unknown, he has to win the fans over and some are never happy. It would be a good season IMO if he builds a good team, playing good football even if promotion isn't achieved. We've been denied being able to say "I'm quite happy with this manager" for about 5 years. Looking to upcoming games feeling we have a chance of a good result would be a start. Lastly, I really don't get the responses to Lincoln's posts. His criticisms maybe be a bit over the top or might not be in the style some like but unless I am wrong they have always been aimed at the team or SR, not individuals for their opinions. What happens though, is his comments are regularly met with snidey and sarcastic personal replies. It's unnecessary and will provoke a slanging match because some can't accept that not everyone's opinion is the same as theirs. If Lincoln is just as bad and I've missed it then ignore the above.
