I watched the last pre season game on Saturday. Lang played on the right wing. As a winger he is not strong. Whilst he has other talents he has the same weakness as Richie - he rarely beats the full back. Segecic, as a No 10 tended to the right side of the attack and made no impact in the first half. In that half the attack created little and most of what was created came down the left from Murphy. I had expected lang and Segcic to inter change positions through out the half but this rarely happened.
In the second half Segcic tended more to the left side of the attack, combined well with Murphy and showed promise. pompey looked dangerous in the second half. They did not in the first half. However, a consequence of this was that the attack became even further weighted to the left hand side.
Late in the second half both wingers were replaced by new signings. Both showed some ability to go round a full back and provided some promise of a more balanced attack. in future although it was only a brief glance.
In writing this I realize I have not made comment on Richie leaving. Despite my comment above, he made a huge contribution last year and showed leadership and spirit as well as skill. I am, and will remain, grateful for his immense contribution in keeping Pompey in the Championship. I wish him very well.
However, I also see problems with promising any squad member first team football -especially when they are 36.

Portsmouth have signed teenage winger Yang Min-hyeok on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old moved from K-League side Gangwon to join Spurs in January and instantly went on loan to fellow Championship side QPR, where he scored twice in 14 games during the second half of last season.

Yang also represented South Korea at the Under-17s World Cup and won his first senior international cap in March.

"Yang was an extremely highly rated player when he first came over to join Spurs in January," Portsmouth manager John Mousinho said.

"We believe he's a real prospect and know that Tottenham think highly of him, so this is the next part of his development.

"He's direct and exciting in the way that he plays and can really help us achieve what we're looking for this season."

Promising Pompey youngster Harry Clout has secured a temporary move away from Fratton Park on the eve of the new Championship campaign.

The 18-year-old has joined National League South side Farnborough on a loan deal until January in what is his first stint away from PO4 after penning professional terms in July.

The winger enjoyed a breakthrough pre-season under John Mousinho, training alongside the first-team.

And the young forward was a regular fixture in the Blues’ friendlies, putting together a string of impressive performances, particularly in a 3-0 victory over the Hawks.

Clout featured in the second warm-up fixture against Farnborough in July, netting Pompey’s second in a dominant 5-0 triumph.

Shoild hace tried to gel him.a loan deal at a league 2 team at léast. This shows the need for a bridge team to cover the gap between the youth and first team. The only reason I suppose there isn't one, is cost. However, when the likes of Charlton and Colchester have these "bridge" teams, surely we can. How are the fringe players going to get game time when they will rarely be in the squad?

Portsmouth will be without midfielder Marlon Pack for at least six weeks as he needs surgery on a knee injury.

The 34-year-old missed Saturday's season-opening 1-0 win at Oxford in the Championship after sustaining the injury in a pre-season friendly against Brighton under-21s on 30 July and boss John Mousinho has confirmed he needs an operation.

"He's going in for surgery tomorrow [Tuesday] so we're pretty positive on it - in the best case scenario he'll be back in six weeks so it's not too bad," Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.

"We probably feared the worst at the end of last week - we're pretty pleased with that as an outcome."

Pack started his career with Portsmouth and re-joined the club from Cardiff City in 2022, playing a key role in their League One title win in 2024.

"We have to wait until he's had the surgery just to double check but we're pretty hopeful," added Mousinho.

"We knew he wasn't fit and available on Friday but he was definitely going to travel with the boys and was a big part of what we achieved on Saturday.

"I almost guarantee he'll be on the bus up to West Brom [next weekend] even though he won't be fit."

Even if uninjured he would probably of been a fringe player this season. Should the on field captaincy be clarified? I think Poole, Murphy and Bishop of all recently filled the roll.

Pompey are also interested in St Johnstone centre forward Makenzie Kirk, with Peterborough Utd already offering circa. £500,000 for the highly rated player formerly with Hearts. He is 21 years old, and has won 4 caps with Northern Ireland under 19's.

Some will see this as "Poundland" shopping. In the dim and distant past, we had some very good Scottish strikers. Creaney is the one that comes to mind. McGarvey as well although his strike rate was low. Who knows?

Yes Ides, we probably are! Some would say prudent, others that we should be matching the massive amounts of money being spent by Birmingham and Wrexham!

Pompey tend to keep their cards close to their chest when chasing potential signings, but it is probably the player's agents who release any information about possible buyers, to boost transfer fees. Their Head of Recruitment Brad Wall, was brought in to the club from Manchester City, hence his knowledge of football players with foreign clubs. He works really well with Sporting Director Richard Hughes.

Now that Callum Lang appears to have suffered a nasty hamstring injury against Norwich, we most definitely require at least one more winger. I would love us to be able to sign former loan player Abu Kamara from Hull City, but now that Glasgow Rangers and a French club are interested, that seems unlikely.

Regarding Callum Lang's hamstring injury, John Mousinho has said that Callum will be out for 4-6 weeks best case scenario, 6-8 weeks worst case. Waiting for a second opinion.
