There used to be but most are shut now... I used to drink in the mire bar in Polmadie(Calder St),think that's shut now,and the international on Aitkenhead Rd.
Was the one nil defeat to Oxford the match rearranged after the original one had been abandoned because of fog and with City leading too.
Was in Glasgow couple of weeks ago. I'd read in a Times weekend supplement that The Belle, Great Western Road was the current best pub in the city. Well, I went and if that's the best I'd hate to see the worst. No proper beer, £6.50 for a pint of rubbish craft ipa, £2 for a bag of crisps.
If I'd have known you were up that way I'd have pointed you in the direction of Byres Rd and the Aragon Bar(or Oran Mor),further down from that there's a wealth of pubs on Dumbarton Rd.
I was only just 7 back then , could have sworn it was Oxford . I was at the defeat to Oxford but the fog abandoned game was a night match so to young to attend .
I used to pop in to The Seven Ways on London Road (near Celtic) occasionally, that was an experience.
woke up this morning and name came to me-thanks, yes Ken Knighton-did we not just buy him at the time from one of the Shefield clubs?
Oran Mor comes from Scots Gallic, probably Amhran Mor, meaning Big Song. Not to be confused with Oranmore in the west of Ireland which is a corruption of Fuarán Mór (the f somehow got lost in the phonetic anglicisation) which is Irish Gaelic for Big Spring (as in a water well). Note how the adjective (Mor = Big) comes after the noun in these closely related languages. Am I a nerd or what? Just the kind of information that Hull City fans are after!!!!!!!
Anybody know what the half time "entertainment" will be this year...the previous 2 seasons have been woeful.
It's an old church building(big song?) on the corner of Great Western Rd and Byres Rd.Beautiful inside, stunning architecture and does nice food. Downstairs in the basement is a big bar doing gigs,I've seen a few artists in there, notably Glenn Tilbrook solo.
I drink in there from time to time(mostly if I'm out of puff walking up the hill) but I used to be a regular when,I think at the time it was the Cask and still and I was heavily into malt whisky, they have maybe 400-500 different ones. Believe it or not, there were several Celtic players who drank in it on a Saturday night...Hartson,Sutton and Jackie McNamara were regulars with their partners and I never once witnessed them getting any wise cracks..Nice to see to be honest
